first, here is part of the mail from ruud: quote:
The main new feature of 4.12 is a faster, more robust version of KXRPC.
Note that whereas KIX32.EXE and KX95.DLL are downward compatible with previous versions of KXRPC, KXRPC itself is not downward compatible. As such, you must make sure to upgrade your clients before you upgrade KXRPC.
Additionally, KiXtart's SET command has been enhanced such that it can update the Windows 9x master environment (which effectively means you no longer need WINSET.EXE).
Also, I fixed an issue with setting/putting properties of COM objects (Shawn, let me know if this version works for you.. ;-)
then, from fixes/enchangements document: quote:
- Enhanced setting/putting of attributes via COM automation
- Enhanced SET to set variables in the master environment on Windows 9x
- Improved performance and security of KXRPC
- KiXtart now properly resets the console colour attibutes upon exit
third, I'll put it in my download area as it's not yet on other pages. I'll remove it from there once kixtart.org download area has it. you can download it from KiX2001_412b1.zip
fourth and final, Enjoy!

It's also available from the KiXtart Resource Center at www.scriptlogic.com/kixtart
The HTML help file is current for KiXtart 4.11. This can also be downloaded from the above site.
Note: Ruud is now on holiday -- I think he mentioned two weeks of hiking, so any e-mails and/or forum postings regarding the beta may not be answered immediately.

developers aren't allowed vacations.. unless they are on the win2k SP3 dev team....
I'm sure he could take an iPaq with a wireless card... he can write code on that in the evenings sitting around the fire.

This is the first time i have been tempted to put a beta into production !!
On my 80% Win9x members on domain, this is good news, but i belive that i'm the only one here that still has Win9x members on the Domain (And expect to have for at least 1 year more)
-Erik
ps. In the testing period, it would be a good idea to set up a NON-DC as KxRpc server for the test PC's because KxRpc for the first time is not backwords compatible.

Erik, you aren't alone. We're still around 60%, but its getting lower with every PC purchase. Plus, we now have an enterprise agreement with M$ so I'm hopeful that sometime we'll get the funding for an OS upgrade project. The 'finance' folks hate us IT people, however, so I'm not holding my breath.

How did that jingle go?
"I abhor my 64..."
I had that COCO all souped up with home made stuff. Lowercase char gen for screen, realtime clock, parallel port, EPROM programmer, NTSC video out, built-in debugger/disassembler, full function keyboard, double-sided 80 track drives, overclocked CPU, memory management unit to page 32/64k pages from 256k, and rewrote the OS to handle it all.
I learned a lot on that puppie...
