Hello Everyone,

Recently I've inherited an old network that is in some major need of updates.

Currently: Windows 2000 Domain Controller (I know its bad but that's why I was brought in)
Kix Version: 4.60
Situation: Works fine

I've brought up a sandbox environment for testing and brought up a new domain controller and transferred FSMO roles as well as other services. DNS has been updated with the new server name/IP address automatically (also verified manually) with the correct address.

Server info: Windows 2008 R2 SP1 All the latest updates.
Kix Version: 4.60 (this replicated to the new NETLOGON folder)

Issue: The script will not run automatically from this new server!!

Testing:
I've disconnected my NIC's on the other Domain Controllers and tried logging with a new user. That way it will use the new domain controller. The user is able to login fine which tells me the DC is working, but Kix does not run automatically. If I browse to the NETLOGON directory it runs and mounts the share I'm testing on.

If the script runs from the previous DC's it works fine.

I cannot seem to find any information about this situation. Can someone please help me? The real script they are using is very long and would take a lot of work to rebuild through group policy or server roles.

Thank you!! Please let me know if you have questions about my environment if I has missed anything.

Have you looked in the event logs on the workstations and the servers?

Welcome to KORG!

Change the user profile login script setting from "kix32.exe" to "kix32.exe kixtart.kix". Version 4.60 had an issue running the default script. Specifying it on the command line (or upgrading to a new version of Kix) resolved the problem.

Sure have but this one stumped me!

Fortunately your suggestion worked. Thanks so much Glenn!! Time to raise the domain running level!

ok, the solution does not make any sense.
a) how you even come up with something so unrelated?
b) it works fine with the old server, so how this could be the reason?

Lonk - Old was Server 2000, new was 2008. The problem was first found on 4.60 on 2003. Ruud mentioned using different compilers on old and new versions, so it was a hunch that it might work on 2000 and not on newer platforms.

JWingert - glad it worked. It's bit many of us here when it was released. We've definitely seen some other minor issues with 4.60, so I'd recommend 4.53 or 4.62 in production.
