Hello,

This is my first post. Glad this forum is available.

I have a client that has around 150 XP computers on his network with the File and Print Sharing service unchecked in the network properties. The previous admin thought it would be a good idea to do this to keep them safe, now they need to manage the computers and don't want to go to all of them manually.

There were lots of references found during a Google search for "snetcfg.exe" and "snetcfg_xp.exe" but they all turned up dead links.
Is this available somewhere or maybe somebody knows where to get a simliar tool to do this task via script.

Thanks!

I think this has been discussed some years ago. Maybe this can help?

Thanks for that link, but as stated in that thread, netset will not help if you already have the F&P service installed and with the check removed.
snetcfg is the way to go.

Now if I could just find that tool I'd be set.

Been Googling a bit and it seems that snetcfg is part of the Windows DDK.
DDK's can be downloaded here: http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/devtools/ddk/default.mspx

I did not download it (236MB ISO) but it might be worth a shot.

Netset also works, but you have to remove F&PS, and then re-add it. I did this at my old company. However, at some point, and I don't know if it was SP2, but I started having issues evening getting netset to run. I'm pretty sure this topic has been discussed here, so do some searching.

I will dig around in my collection of goodies and see if I can find that other utility.

Yes, losing JSIFAQ is unfortunate. I wonder if anyone else posted those utilities?

snetcfg does not appear to be included in the DDK.

Anyone have an idea of how to check if File & Print is unchecked from an adapter? Everyone can have it installed but some may have it unchecked, and I'd like to find just those people.

Thanks!

A little old topic now, but I see this showing up in the who's online results all the time. I just stumbled across something from MS that should be a replacement for these tools...

NVSPBind -
http://code.msdn.microsoft.com/nvspbind
"nvspbind is a tool for modifying network bindings from the command line. It is especially useful in Server Core environments with the Hyper-V role enabled.
It can be used to set the correct bindings for NICs used in Virtual Networks.
It can also be used to enable or disable specific bindings on any NIC and to query and change the NIC connection order.
It utilizes the INetCfg APIs documented on MSDN (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms805265.aspx).
Most options are documented in the readme and nvpsbind.txt which download with the install."

Downloads
There are three variations:

Microsoft_Nvspbind_package.EXE is the standard 64 bit version for server core.

32bit_Nvspbind_package.EXE is a 32 bit version that works on Vista and newer.

XP_Nvspbind_package.EXE is a reduced functionality 32 bit version that works on XP and newer
