I've had no luck re-directing my start menu's per PC config, so wondered if it's possible with a script.
I already have a kix script assigning printers to rooms [that users logon from]: if $room/ if $client so could I tap into that??
TIA

I currently use group policy to re-direct all users to 1 start menu - but I have a growing number of redundant icons from different configs, so I wan't to assign about 4 different start menu's.

according to group membership?
no. I currently have 1 for all students, and 1 for staff [in sub-domain]

what about this:
del "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\*.*"
$room=SubStr(@wksta,2,2) $client=SubStr(%clientname%,2,2) Select Case ($room="19") copy "\\server\room19\start menu\Programs\*.*" "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\*.*" endselect

If you already use GPOs, why not do it all with GPOs?
I would if I could Les - but I can't work out how to do it!
I can re-direct from a policy on the user container/ OU to one start menu, but I want 4 or 5 start menus for all users, if you see what I mean. Start Menu's for 4 or five different software images.
At the moment I have quite a few blank icons for stuff not available on all computers. Technology are just about to come onto the network with a totally diferent install, which'd make it all too confusing.
If you know/ can think of a way of doing this, please let me know

student a - uses PC in IT to do IT coursework. Next lesson in technology IT he uses cad/cam software to build his latest invention. Lesson 3 is in the library he uses the only licenced copy of Encarta and a few other library only programs to do some research. It's nice he only has 1 username and home folder to keep all his school work in, life would be too complicated otherwise ... don't you agree??

a different start menu assigned to each PC the user logs onto. Just like it's be if we had no re-directed start menu [hey - wait a minute! *just kidding* ]

fireworks light the sky!!! You GEDDIT!
Yeah - I tried that - doesn't work.
Students in thier OU, Computers in a tree of thier own, in folders by configuration. Folder re-direction set on computer config OU and not on Student OU. GPO linked, GPO applied to student OU. Nothing.

hope no offence taken Les - just trying to keep my sense of humor about this [and not bore you into the bargain!}
Apologies if any taken - was not my intention.
Consultant with me Wednesday said nothing about loopback processing. Neither did my 6 posts to MS expert sites today yeild such knowledge.
Thanks - i'll try that - [Tuesday ] [gets out BFM]
You're a star!
