Lonkero, Clearly this forum was meant for you. This board needed someone who took a special interest in Ruud's latest releases & discussions concerning them. Good start! |

It's also available from the KiXtart Resource Center at www.scriptlogic.com/kixtart The HTML help file is current for KiXtart 4.11. This can also be downloaded from the above site. Note: Ruud is now on holiday -- I think he mentioned two weeks of hiking, so any e-mails and/or forum postings regarding the beta may not be answered immediately. -Brian |

developers aren't allowed vacations.. unless they are on the win2k SP3 dev team.... I'm sure he could take an iPaq with a wireless card... he can write code on that in the evenings sitting around the fire. |
yeah, I don't think he is taking vacation from coding. more like, he is taking it for time to code... you know, no need to answer mails and questions nor say to boss: "yes, sir!" |

4.12 b1 has fixed my COM access DB errors.. hooray!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

Damn, I won't have time until the weekend to testdrive it. |

jens, I think most of us don't have. I have also really limited time currently, but will give it a shot. what comes to rpc, can't test as have none of related machines. what comes to testing these builds, I started thinking about creating special kix-test environment (met that idea on samba-devel)... put some old pentium II machines stacked and make installation on different setups and run a variety of scripts on them... should reveal some basic stuff... uttleast. and about ruud's vacation, I think he starts it on the weekend as he is currently monitoring the board. weird it is though, haven't seen that dedicated person making all without money involment... and monitoring world on news at 10pm. or then he is dedicated as kix-revolutionist at m$ and he has nothing else to worry about than kix... who knows... but ruud, thanks for great language!   |

This is the first time i have been tempted to put a beta into production !! On my 80% Win9x members on domain, this is good news, but i belive that i'm the only one here that still has Win9x members on the Domain (And expect to have for at least 1 year more) -Erik ps. In the testing period, it would be a good idea to set up a NON-DC as KxRpc server for the test PC's because KxRpc for the first time is not backwords compatible. |

Erik, you aren't alone. We're still around 60%, but its getting lower with every PC purchase. Plus, we now have an enterprise agreement with M$ so I'm hopeful that sometime we'll get the funding for an OS upgrade project. The 'finance' folks hate us IT people, however, so I'm not holding my breath. |

heh, getting to the %... 60% NT, 39% w2k, 2 machines xp. the xp is only for testing and far as I've seen and as far as I've learned we will not install any new xp's in our net for 2 years... |

I like it... |

Maybe from the point of view of an end-user but if you have to administer a network consisting of 100+ or 1000+ computers you think in different categories. In that case you don't care whether that button is red or blue. |

I liked the early Tandy computers! I liked my C64 but my bother had a Tandy & I always thought it was cool in comparison. |

Back to the important stuff. I gave KiXtart 4.12 Beta 1 a quick test drive with the function provided in Function: Read eventlog with WMI (buggy) . I can report that KiXtart 4.12 Beta 1 does work and is able to return the count of records in an object. I will still need to polish my EventLog UDF and add one more parameter to it but I am very hopeful that by the end of the week, I can present a native KiXtart Eventlog Reader. [ 14. How did that jingle go? "I abhor my 64..." I had that COCO all souped up with home made stuff. Lowercase char gen for screen, realtime clock, parallel port, EPROM programmer, NTSC video out, built-in debugger/disassembler, full function keyboard, double-sided 80 track drives, overclocked CPU, memory management unit to page 32/64k pages from 256k, and rewrote the OS to handle it all. I learned a lot on that puppie... |

Sorry for my stagger down memory lane. The musing of this old fart must be near enough to make a youngster like Jooel toss his cookies or at the very least put him to sleep. Back on topic... Good news about 4.12. The lack of backward compatability or the RPC will make it tough for some. Maybe time to dump the last of the Wintendos. Did I ever tell you I hate Wintendos? |

mmm... as I now look more, only thing that intrests me in this new build is the com stuff. as I only run wkix on nt-based systems. you know, console comes up only when problems occur... anyway, as I've been running checker with it, it has not failed and everything is smooth...   |

Ruud made some important fixes to COM in 4.12 ... like the issue relating to ACCESS and ADO (discussed elsewhere). And an issue relating to the getting and setting of properties .. think even the COM performance was given a boost. IMHO this is one of the enjoyable Kixtart builds released in a long time. [ 14. well, the boost was what I liked and that was going on... but, liked the changes in 4.11 more important. for me anyway, as I don't play so much with db's.   |
