Kix and Wireless

For some reason my kix logon script will not run when connecting to my network wirelessly? Can anyone help me get through this as i am just starting to set up Kix for our network, but will not be able to use it if it doesnt run on my wireless network.

Thanks

Re: Kix and Wireless

well, for starters, do not use any wireless tool application.
if you do, most likely the wireless network wakes up AFTER you have already logged in.

Re: Kix and Wireless

I am using Windows to manage my wireless, but it still seems to take a while to connect and then the script still doesn't run, is there a way force the wireless to connect faster?

Re: Kix and Wireless

hmm...
there was some wait for network setting that fixed issues way back, when XP became reality.
but, it's like 7-8 years ago, can't remember.

Re: Kix and Wireless

hmm... well, you should check the GPO's you have.
runlogonscript sync and wait for network...
these are the 2 thingies that come to my mind.

Re: Kix and Wireless

Some wireless cards have the issue to start the wireless card (load the drivers) after logon. Maybe the setting below will fix this. Some network cards (at least Intel does for some NIC's) have the option to let it startup before logon.

Always wait for network GPO setting:

Well if you go to the Properties of "My Network Places".
And then in the menu bar select "Advanced" / "Advanced Settings".
You can select in wich order your NIC's are accessed.
I put the Wireless NIC on top, since I mostly work wirelessly.

Re: Kix and Wireless

I have tried these things, and still no luck, should I have the bat file calling the kix in the profile of the user under AD, or should it be a group policy for start-up? Any help with this is greatly appreciated.

Re: Kix and Wireless

You need to determine when the actual connection takes place. If your network connection actually connects AFTER the user logs on then its not going to work too well. You'd need some type of delayed start that is triggered after the network connection is made, otherwise you need the IP connection to be able to work BEFORE or at least DURING the user log on.

Re: Kix and Wireless

ok, lets start simple.
what's your wireless adapter?

and don't say it's a usb dongle.

Re: Kix and Wireless

No it is an intel Pro/wireless network adapter in a Dell Latitude D610.

I have set it as the first network adapter, configured the GPO to delay start, but the script still doesn't run.

Re: Kix and Wireless

do you have the proset wireless application installed?
if yes, you should start by uninstalling it...

I did uninstall that so that windows manages the wireless...

Re: Kix and Wireless

hmm... I remember having this issue as well, but for my current network, none of the PC's have this issue (CEO has mac, but who cares about those?)
on the other hand, all our pc's are amd based, so, no intel chips either.

on the intel front found ppl saying about old drivers and then came across this:

in short, is your computer set to authenticate itself?

Re: Kix and Wireless

well, I'm out of suggestions.
just downgraded one machine from vista to xp and it had similar issues but it was because the adapter failed to get IP in timely fashion. after rebooting the access point, logonscripts ran just fine.

Re: Kix and Wireless

i am at a total loss, is there anything else in GPO that needs to be set, and do you call the logon script from the user profile or in GPO? Other than that, i don't know if it is our access point or something else.
