A couple more freeware editors -

Sort of VB/ASP-centric, but shows promise - http://www.developerspad.com/default.php

Not as feature-rich as EditPad Pro, but offers some pretty sweet features: EditPad Lite - http://www.editpadpro.com/editpadlite.html

Ok.. Let's see what is the "six duckies" at http://www.nonags.com/nonags for text editors and these should all be freeware..

Hopefully there is no duplication here.

(1) SuperEdi 3.0 for Win9x/NT4/Mill/Win2k http://www.wolosoft.com

(2) Jarte 1.01 for Win9x/NT4/Mill/Win2k http://www.jarte.com/

(3) Mega Hyper Edit 3.20 for Win9x http://publish.uwo.ca/~dvanders/megaedit.html

(4) TxE 8.0 for Win9x/NT4/Mill/Win2k http://www.duh.tmfweb.nl/

(5) Emacs 20.4.1 for Win9x/NT4 http://www.gnu.org/software/emacs/windows/ - Not for the faint of heart

(6) Programmer's File Editor 1.01 For Windows 9x/NT http://www.lancs.ac.uk/people/cpaap/pfe/ - No longer being developed

(7) Vim 5.1 for Win9x/NT4 http://www.vim.org/

(8) tfmEditor 1 B5.2 For Windows 95/NT4 http://www.pacifier.com/~tfm/

Thanks!

- Kent

VIM has gone through a major release recently and is now at version 6.0, available from the same place

My banging on about it has nothing to do with my syntax file being included in the distro, honest

Did you ever finish downloading and testing all of these editors?

Can you please write up a report/essay on the pros-cons of each one.

Thanks again... [Big Grin]

A friend of mine was asking me about what editor to use.... I remembered this posting and saw the reply that he would have to test all of them.

I just thought it would be funny to ask if he ever finished this.

I'm tempted to move this thread to the 'General Discussion' forum. However, I fear MCA might not like that [Wink]

Dear Jens,

We doesn't have problems with it for creating statistical pages.
More our issues were and are
  • after moving a topic to another forum existing links to the old location doesn't work.
  • all kind of direct link with the "kixtart.org" forums on our site pages doesn't work
    after a move operation.
for specific topics we will add a request not to move that topic to another forum.
for most topics we know which one plays a central role on our site.
Lonkero, the notify author didn't work for moved topic in our situation.
greetings.

MCA: Isn't it the case that the 'Notify Thread Starter' doesn't work for you because you disallowed notifications in your KiXtart BBS profile? I seem to remember that you've mentioned something like this once.

E.g. if I would send you a 'Private Message' through the KiXtart BBS would you actually receive a notification in your email? Actually, just did this [Wink] and you disabled private messages. That's why you don't get notified about thread moves.

Hmmm... the moving of this thread necessitated my revising the link on the FAQ
Topic: Can't decide what editor to use... Maybe this'll help

Dear,

Possible that could be the problem, but with this knowledge it is just
more a reason to be careful with moving topics. Based on the members
with at least one hunderd posts we are the only person with "private
message" mode off.
In the past there were already a lot of discussions about how members
and moderators were thinking about moved topics.

Always the issue is that after moving a topic to another forum existing
links to the old location doesn't work.
Les see the impact also on FAQ issues. This impact makes it more impor-
tant to be carefully with moving topics.

greetings.
