[Moderator (Sealeopard): Thread moved form 'Scripts' to 'General Discussions' forum]

I'm looking for an script/program editor for Kix (and others) that support colloring text between () and "" and IF ENDIF statements etc. I'm getting #@$% of errors like 'ENDIF statement without IF'

If you want to do this somewhat quickly, you can grab KixStrip.

There are several Add-Ons and templates for Editing in KiXtart.

  • TextPad
  • UltraEdit
  • EditPad
If you want to get an editor that has some of this built-in, please visit - http://versionzero.romanweb.com

Dear,

There are two version of kixstrip.
One for Kixtart 3.63 release (kixstrip363.exe) and another for
kixtart 4.00 release (kixstrip400.exe).
See our site
http://home.wanadoo.nl/scripting
Also additional files for the editor TextPad 4.4 (ClipLibrary +
Syntax Definition File) you will find on our site.
Greetings.

My personal favorite is Edit Plus. Extremely customizable for all scripting languages, and includes some features like auto completion, templating, etc.

If you're from a Unix background VIM (vi clone) now supports Kix syntax coloring.

Here's a sample of what it looks like (yes, it converts the script to HTML!), and you can download it from here.

By far the best editor is the little known ConText.

This is the editor of editors, and it's free!

Supports highlighting for a few dozen languages and has several advanced features!
http://www.fixedsys.com/context/

Drop me a line if you like it!

I've tried the one from kixscripts.com and ConText: ConText seems far better!
The only thing I miss using it, is the ability to use Network drives as favorites,
like \\server\share\folder. This is usefull for e.g. the netlogon share which usually doesn't have a driveletter assigned.
Other than that this one is great!

I don't like the one from Kixscripts.com...

I had looked at Context and it does looks pretty slick. I have also looked at Developers Pad as well as Crimson Editor, but Crimson Editor does not do well with Search and Replace.

Here is EditPad with the Kixtart.jgcscs file in place -

If you want to get the Kixtart.jgcscs file - http://www.editpadpro.com/cgi-bin/cscsdl.pl?id=25 it does, need to be updated with the Gold release of 4.0.

Some things to look for in a good editor, I think:

  • Search and Replace, with Carriage Returns too!
  • Syntax Highlighting
  • Tabbed Interface
  • Clipboard Stacking
  • Bookmarks
  • Integration with Development tools

Thanks!

UltraEdit is the one that Mr. spok would use the for scripting at Enterpise, but I can not find nowhere the colorize instructions file for kixtart. If you have it please beam it to me.

PS. It has also the best column support I ever seen.

You can download a complete WordFile.txt for Ultraedit from www.scriptlogic.com/kixtart. I'll post here if requested.

I use TextPad for KiX, HTML, VBScript and NTCommand scripts. I only tried a few and found it the best. You can set it up so that you press CNTRL+1 (or whatever) and it runs your script and returns to the line with the error (if there is one).

I have to add it because I think it is one of the BEST all around scripting tools: Primalscript. Name is different, but the tool is absolutely first rate.
