Hi ,
has anyone had weird issues with v4.12?
We're starting up an AD and were happily
using the kix32.exe from v4.12.
All the suddenly i received a call telling that the script no longer functioned.
Bizarely the kix2.exe doesn't do anything at all
anymore. Seems that the contents from the executable that was stored in the netlogon dir has been altered. The filesize doesn't show
anby visible differences as long as the file is uncompressed. Compressed it's only half as big in size compared to the original as downloaded
directly from kixtart.org.

Anyone has a clue ( AD policies / other stuff that
could've gone wrong )?

All clues are welcome,
Edwin

Virus?

What happens if you replace the KIX32.EXE with a freshly downloaded one?

Is replication set up correctly?

Sounds to me like you have either virus activity of someone playing around.

Hi,
when i replace the executable with a newly downloaded one all works fine.
For some wicked reason the affected executable
seems to have become an empty shell.
Ran it through AVP / Panda & McAfee ( all with the latest virus signatures ) and none detected anything bizarre at all.
Uncompressed size is equal. If you compress them
( the new & the affected instance ) you see a
difference from over 100000 bytes on the affected one. Someone playing around is almost unbelievable
since only 5 persons have knowledge of the credentials needed to gain write access to the netlogon dir. With our won credentials we get a royal access denied when attemting to write anyting into the netlogon dir.

Dear,

When you are using the way we are upgrading you get more information about what was going wrong.

We are using our iexpress package to install kixtart binaries on our clients.
After completion an installation you will get a control file with information
about what was done.
An example
code:
[KiXtart]
kix32.exe=2003/01/19 01:09:56 -> 2003/01/10 13:12:09 237568 (build 123)
kx16.dll=2003/01/19 01:09:56 -> 2001/08/27 19:17:29 47104
kx32.dll=2003/01/19 01:09:56 -> 2002/03/29 11:38:08 49152
kx95.dll=2003/01/19 01:09:56 -> 2002/11/11 07:50:03 49152 (build 003)
KiXtart=installation completed at 2003/01/19 01:09:56 (+kix32.exe +kx16.dll +kx32.dll +kx95.dll) to "c:\windows\"
KiXtart release=ME -> kix 4.20 Release Candidate 1
KiXtart mode=registry

For more information see

Kix upgrade: what are those new features? can upgrade be done without any danger?
.KIX -> .EXE: Package and compact your script...

greetings.

btw: symbol - on our pages has been linked to related http://kixtart.org topic.

MCA,
thanks for the suggestion but the problem did not occur immediately after the install. The setup ran fine for a week and then suddenly it stopped
working. This has nothing to do with the way we installed it.

Dear,

We doesn't mean your way of installation is wrong.
It is only another way to do it and to get more information about the installation.

The possible problem could be created
- by a virus
- when your kixtart binaries become corrupt. corrupt after f.e. bad sectors on your harddisk.

Possible that you have invest the replaced file(s).
greetings.
