We all agreed a long time ago now that we would not discuss UDFs in the UDF forum.

If you have any questions or concerns about a UDF please post in the SCRIPTS forum and add a link to the UDF in question.

This goes for all us Moderators as well... I'm just as guilty as some of you others.

Perhaps we should close the thread after posting it? If closed, does the author have the ability to reopen the thread to make edits?

Only moderators may close and reopen topics. Personally, I think we are taking this rule a bit too far.

It was agreed a long time ago that it was fine to discuss the UDF as long as it pertains to the development of the UDF. So, suggestions on improvement etc. are fine, but newbie questions like "how do I make this work?" are not.

The author of the UDf always has the prerogative to request from a moderator that certain replys be deleted when the guidelines are contravened. We can also reply to a UDF with the intent to later remove our own replies.

My sentiments are with Les on this issue. I think a limited discussion is a good idea. Also, if one wished to create a truly “pure” UDF library wouldn’t scriptlogic's implementation be preferable. I doubt we could adapt this board to match what Scriptlogic does. I recommend we encourage as many of our UDF posters as possible to post their functions with Scriptlogic after they get feedback here.

jack, you are right on that somewhat...

first, the scriptlogic udf-lib is more watched and monitored by ruud.

also, it's clear as it has the default style everyone must follow.

anyway, on the other hand, it does not have the freedom kix has.
nowadays it's possible in kix to make strings without quotes.

think our board is similar to kix: "what the heck of the syntax if it's working"

dunno, for me the only reason for not posting there is that it's scriptlogic.
I have no other business over there.

I would understand if that www.udflib.com would be own site but as it's just a redirect to a scriptlogic's sub-folder, no fancy.

scriptlogic is not bad, but it could be better and I definitely will wait it to get better before suggesting it newbies.

I prefer here to scriptlogic as well because I like the company but their UDF library is nicely implemented.

But if you want serious info on kix & kix problems, there is no place like this board on the web. You can learn tricks here that are explained nowhere else.

PS: I think you are making the same point as Les because I believe Les is saying let's not get too tied up in standards. They get in the way sometimes.

I think the point Doc was getting at was, Don't hijaak the thread for witty reparte. discuss the udf to your contentment... but try to have more substance than, "Your lines are too long and it hurts my eyes using my 24" monitor that is set to 640x480" [Big Grin]

rad, I think too that it was the point [Wink]

anyway, nice discussion here at general discussions is never bad and maybe I even get of those series of 6's...

anyway, the thing I dislike most in their UDFlib is that I have currently 1 udf there.
udf that has no parameters to input and their board forced me to specify one!

well, not sure if it's already fixed...

Rad,
For your info, my 24" monitor is running 1600x1200... [Razz]

Anyway, I had planned to remove my post but someone beat me to it. I cosidered removing it sooner but then DOC's reply would have been hanging there out of context. With DOC's reply, he could have simply asked us to also cleanup. I am capable of cleaning up after myself.

No need for noses to get out of joint! IT is obvious that off-topic replies can be dealt with. No animals were hurt as a result.

Actually, I was going to point you to Gateway's 42" Plasma TV Screen as a monitor...

or a projector to shine on the wall... most programmers live in dark caves anyway... [Big Grin]

Jack,
I run twin head video...
My laptop has 14" LCD and extends the desktop to the 24" so as to read DOC's long lines.

My NMS has 19 primary and extends also to the 24" to see my network maps.

there are a few more hooked to the 24" with a KVM.

So, overall, I have 3 or 4 displays going, all with different content. My own little "Mission COntrol"...

....eat your heart out.

Today there were a couple of "how do I make this work" kinda posts to the UDF forum. I'm not one for a total ban on posting replies but if we can't be consistent on the "rules" and get this under control, maybe we need to review some things.

1. The rules. Are we clear on them? Are they clearly spelled out?

We need to re-affirm what the rules are. Where's the UDF moderators when we need them? They should be spelled out a bit more clearly in the Guidelines.

2. Other ideas? Anyone?
