Updating has with it some risks. It is most unfortunate that the member number search broke with the last update. The one before that hid all threads from all but the "GURUS". Maybe it is for that reason that Henri is reluctant to update again.

Dear,

Possible that Henri must or want update his site. It is important to
know "what are his reasons to upgrade?"

For the members it can be important
  • what makes this board much better? the structure instead of the upgrade.
  • what are the actual benefits of the latest release for the board?
the disadvantages from the past were:
    - new URL format
    - reactions with very long lines can deform the topic layout
    - conversion of contents to new format doesn't return always the correct results
  • what can be better
    - the way HTML code is interpretated.
    - create a printable version of a topic
is this an option within the configuration or is it something which can be
a suggestion for a newer release. For suggestions you should put them on
    the www.infopop.com forum.
greetings.

If you want your question answered you should send Henri an email. This forum is intended to discuss suggested improvements to KiXtart software and not UBB software. Was it not you that reminded us that as moderators we sould respect the ABC's of KiXtart board etiquette.

Dear Les,

This forum isn't restricting strictly to kixtart stuff only. The COM forum was borned in this
forum. Also you can find all kind of other topics related to UBB board in this forum.

Our earlier remark about contributions was that a new 'discussion' was starting within another
subject. A 'discussion' which didn't have any relation with the subject.
Specially for a starters forum it can make newbies afraid was our opinion.

We agree with you that this forum isn't for improvements for UBB software. For at better
response we suggested to put a message on the forums of www.infopop.com .

Les, we doesn't think that this subject should put on one of the other forums.
greetings.

IMHO 'Suggestions' is the forum where we can borrow Ruud's ear. The by-line for it after all, is "Discussion of new KiXtart features and suggestions for new KiXtart releases". Ruud should not have to wade through many long unrelated topics.

COM is most certainly a KiX feature but my recollection of its birth is very different.

Now you're twisting my words. I never suggested you were discussing improvement for UBB software, only that you are discussing UBB software. I wouldn't for a second suggest you post this question on UBB's forum.

If you want to borrow Henri's ear, a private discussion may go further than a public airing of laundry.

My opinion remains unchanged so then we must agree to disagree.

Kindest regards

I have sympathies with both views.

The problem is that there will always be issues which are relevant to, and should be discussed within, the KiXtart community, but are not directly KiXtart related.

The UBB software is a very good example. It is the primary resource used by this community. As such we *should* discuss the merits of upgrading, and air concerns over how it may affect what we do here.

I certainly don't want to see Yet Another Forum for non-KiXtart issues, so I think that the Suggestions Forum is the most appropriate place to raise this particular issue.

Other issues (editors, board etiquette, 3rd party utils) are also not KiXtart specific issues, but would be more appropriate in the Starters/Scripts forum, depending on the level that they are aimed at.

Perhaps Henri would like to change the forum description, to indicate that it may be used to suggest improvements to the KiXtart community resources as well as KiXtart itself. That would remove any contention [Wink]

As for getting Ruud's ear - who knows. There is almost no feedback to messages posted here, except for other community members.

There is no way of knowing whether suggestions are vetoed as not achievable or dersireable, accepted as a future enhancement or simply never read.

heh, I've been checking what messages ruud checks and he actually reads the suggestions forum.
why there isn't any replies, nobody knows.

but I'd like to keep this forum more silent and change the starters forum name to general or to starters&general.

we had similar discussion before and I think I was the one who was yelling at ppl to not post wrong type posts in wrong forums.
anyway, isn't there ability to move the topic?
as moderators can move them to more appropiate forums if really mismatched topics get raised.

anyway, what comes to upgrading the ubb soft, I would ask what it fixes not what it brings more.
like the search.
if it fixes the bugs raised by last update then new things matter.
like is user allowed to change his voting on someone.

Dear,

First of at all Henri's answer:

He will first look for the consequences of this upgrade. Now he thinks it
is very useful.
He hopes that it will be done within two weeks.

We must not forget that the beta and suggestion forums doesn't get an enor-
mous grow. Mean less than one per day. Mostly during a new release we see
a little grow. Now all new/updated topics can be viewed on one page by a
selection of "show topics from last 10 days".
In our opinion
  • Ruud's read them. Sometimes we see the results in the newest releases.
  • at this moment Ruud's find it not necessary to react on all topics. Sometimes he
breaks into a discussion, when it has to deal with internal knowledge of the kixtart
    program.
"View recent post" from his profile and you see his actual feedback to this board,
but don't forget that Ruud has to deal will mail also. Kixtart newbies read first
his mail address and don't know that there is an excellent board for his requests.
  • at good subject description can help Ruud also.
  • changes and/or extensions to the board has also impact for Ruud. Would we like,
that this nearly pure kixtart board becomes something like
    www.myITforum.com
To conclude we must not forget, that an upgrade can have following consequences for
us
- interruptions during the upgrade phase
- known URL's doesn't work anymore
- layout can become different
- URL links on your own site must be repaired
greetings.

btw: Richard, we agree with your vision about it.

(MCA: link repaired)

do we want this to come like myitforum?

first thing I got from your link was just a plain text explaining why it was not functioning!
second time I opened the link to show my fellow worker how bad it was it actually opened.

this is not we want. we don't want it to be hard to access a simple website.

THe problem is MCA's link contains cookie info. It should instead be just http://www.myitforum.com/forums/

yeah...

actually, now when used your link I actually took some 30 seconds to scroll and catched one thing. we may have "superforum"-titles.
like:
kixtart
general

kixtart might have the current forums and general would have some like:
management
bb faq
general - as whatever

{edit}
although, after some rethinking, can't find some much use for this. as it's kix-site we are running and unrelated topics are really rare

{edit2}
also, after some...
I think these topics should be posted in starters forum, which name SHOULD be changed to something more working.
like general.

Thanks Lonkero & Les,

We have repair the link to a more general one. During submitting was working.
We agree with you that we doesn't want a forum list of that site.
We must and should keep it clear and simple. Mostly it can be already hard to
find old topics back. Mostly we had little chooses, but they clear.

greetings.

SO MCA, what do you think of renaming the "Starters" forum to "General"? When I sent that private email to you and the other moderators, only Jens replied. Incidentally, in case you didn't read his reply, he was in agreement on the name change. Should I take no reply as not being against and ask Henri to rename it?
