dudes,
the reason I might not be seen in the buddies is that I've learned to logoff.
this way, the checker runs as quest but you don't get fooled that I'm around.

what comes to the newist code by howard, I asked for it as it can be timed to run automatically on linux server.
and see that his code result is nice...

what comes to the usage of code, currently DOC has best place to show the list:
1. easy to remember name
2. as long as doc has money, that page will stay (read stable)
3. bandwidth to his "server" is more than enough

then, hosting the list on kixtart.org would be good but henri has minor no-go with everything new so I don't take that as option.

and finally, haven't checked hoby's code, but think about downloading 300 topics at once.
then multiply it by... say 10 of same time users.
that is more than this site can handle.
remember that it runs on IIS which has great problems if simultaneous hit count is more than 20.

and then, reading the last posts...

no ppl should not be "allowed" to update their codes in replies. I have some code in the replies to fix the code in the udf post, should that be included too?

rad already fixed the topic headers in the udf-forum and I think that it is the way to go with moderator presence in there...

Jooel,
Not sure I follow...
The first post of the thread has the UDF.  If, in successive posts there is mode code posted, ppl would have to scour through the entire thread to find the updated code.  This is a bad thing.

If there is some reason that the author would want to keep both the old and the revised code, perhaps to demonstrate a point, then both should be placed in the first post. Likewise if one were to post a collection.

If someone else were to post (a reply) their version in another's thread, that person should then start a new thread (as long as it is production worthy) and provide a link to it.

Bottom line is... all production worthy code should be in the first post.

Well, I'm glad we are in agreement. To disagree with you would be like having a pissing contest with a skunk.

Lonkero,
Please contact me with what you would like to do with regards to posting the code/updates for UDF on www.kixhelp.com

I've updated the site if you take a look now, it should be a little easier to use. Still adding content and reviewing other ideas on layout/design issues.

I would probably host it, and have a link to it that would open a NEW page. Would like to maybe keep the same color design, but am open to other suggestions.

hoby, to my knowledge RH with apache is his unusual [Wink] combination.
so, I bet there is all ready for the script and the update is just matter of cron.daily

doc, the page has something in it...
dunno about the color.
text layout is just little weird on the home...

then, you still have in downloads the borland compiler. I think you should state that it requires registeration and acception of commercial mail.

I'm trying to get better [Wink]

I think it looks much better then it did a couple days ago.

Not sure what to really put on the home page yet, so I put that blurb about Ruud and KiXtart.

The server is being run on LINUX but I don't have access to cron
I can run CGI (if I knew how [Frown] ) but no scheduling.

I've updated the site again as of just a few minutes ago.

Will look at doing the UDF page in the next day or so. Do you want me to use the script you wrote Lonkero, or the new one that Howard has?

http://www.kixhelp.com

Are you sure about that email licensing stuff Lonkero? Have you done it? I saw it, but have not downloaded or tried it out yet!. Looking at the Borland website, it looks like you can simply give bogus information and download the file. The other link also has a link for a download without going to Borlands site.

I found that thing about 2 months ago and downloaded the compiler.
can't use without:
lisencing
giving them right to send commercial e-mail

then, tried that thing.
it's awfully hard to get even to work.
so, finally haven't used it even once...
gladly someone has visual studio so no need to crash my head with that. [Big Grin]

So, what about the code to populate the UDF web pages? You want me to use your code or Howards?

Getting ready to go to bed. It's 02:00 hours here now. [Eek!]

it's easier to fix my kix-code...

I'll cron his code later today on my server and see how it works...

Running my code on a Win32 computer is rather easy as NTDOC can attest. Especially when I compile it into an EXE.

I am still improving the code for readability and performance.

I found this to be a worthwhile effort just to learn more about interacting with a web server.

I will forward the updated code to both NTDOC and Lonkero in a day or two when the improvements are complete.

Yes and no. If the program is sufficiently parameterized or a config file is used, changes can be minimized.

It could always be recompiled.

Or ActivePerl could be installed on any computer and the script simply executed.

Regardless of which code gets executed, the idea was very good.

You guys are amazing. If you even stay away from the board for even a week, you miss amazing things. [Cool]

You are moving so fast, I wonder if MCA will be able to catch you after his long absence.

Board is not completely silent [Roll Eyes]

I've updated my site to automatically update the UDF collection every 2 hours.

Now on line and mirrored in 2 locations, mine and Lonkero's site.

Time to go do some HONEY-DO stuff... strip and paint the steps to the house.... oh joy!
