I use KixScripts....

I like the kixscript editor too. Not just because because it works, but because its the only editor (afaik) that is truely dedicated to the kixtart scripting language (more than just a template driven generic editor) ... and I don't know man, looking at some of those screen snaps up above ... more than 2 thirds of the available window real estate is taken up with bells and whistles and do-dads ... can hardly see the actual script your trying to work on. Think I will stick with my notey pad [Wink]

[ps] I frequently visit the kixscripts.com homepage and was following that thread over there about the kixscripts splash screen always being displayed - even for registered users. A rather "heated" discussion was evolving between Steve and Bob (Developers) and a couple of "customers". I was impressed by how the kixscripts guys handled themselves, staying calm and professional through-out.

In defense of textpad it is a matter of prefference on the extra window panes that are open...

All those screen shots... sooo complex.

I won't bother including my screen shots 'cause you can all generate your own!

Just go to Start | Run, and type notepad followed by the [Enter] key. Now doesn't that look a whole lot less complicated?

OH, OH, OH, and it's preinstalled on every machine I've ever been on (except for my Linux box, but that's another story).

I have one better.

Start \ Programs \ Accessories \ Right-click Notepad
Properties

Shortcut key = Ctrl + Alt + N

then notepad is only a keystroke away

of course, ConText freeware isn't too bad.

You guys and your fancy Notepad! When I was a kid, we didn't have Notepad or Wordpad or UltraEdit or any of your fancy doodads.

We had COPY CON...and we were damn glad to have it!

And that's all I'll ever use. I'd love to hear from the rest of the COPY CON faithful. We're a dying breed...

Hey there young fella! I wrote many a .BAT file and .SYS file with COPY CON...

I remember having to edit large files in separate pieces with EDLIN and then merge them together with the COPY command. After EDLIN, my fav was ED from WordPerfect. It could edit large files in one piece.

Love my NotePad though now but still keep a copy of ED around.

I still pass all my copy/paste code from this BB through WordPad to keep the formatting.

I don't like when it tries to emulate Word. I force it to WRI format and use it often for documentation. My servers don't have anything else for easy text and graphics.

I wouldn't use it to write code though.

heh, my wordpad is forced to txt!

after starting write from run my normal procedure with it is as simple as:
ctrl+v
ctrl+a
ctrl+x
alt+F4
alt+n

I remember also the days when HAD to use edlin on systems not having edit installed.

after getting little more age and strucling with linux, I've made really simple rule.
I will not work if I don't get the right tools.
on windows can be NOTEPAD or EDIT and unix-like systems must have PICO or KEDIT.

what comes to emacs, I have not found so horrible demonic attempt to destroy admins mind.
and don't thing that I'll never come across either...

So what you do Jooel, break into a museum? You're not old enough for EDLIN. [Big Grin]

When I was a kid they didn't have computers. As a teenager they finally had some but they were bigger than a city bus.
