Les,

Sorry, but I'm too busy lately to do that much debugging for FREE for Symantec. If v8.0 can't install over the TOP OF 7.x then it IS NOT ready for Prime Time in my opinion.

They will need to work on it a lot harder themselves first. I have a fairly clean up to date system, most users will have a lot worse running machines that their installer will need to get past as well.

I hear what you're saying.  I don't know too many shops that have virgin machines.  Most would be installing over at least a 7.x product.  I ran into some problems with NAV when trying to upgrade from LANDesk 5.03 but then that was a big jump to 7.5x.  Now in testing I'm just trying to go from 7.61 which is only one version away.

I too will probably wait for at least a .1 release.

And I quote from this url... "Uninstalling NAVCE 7.5 or 7.6 client is generally not required prior to the installation of Symantec AV 8 client, provided that the client is not damaged."

I'm going to have to test that though...on the next build...hehehee... [Big Grin]

Nope, you did it correctly, but there's a limit to the URL length that the messageboard can handle.

Cmarti,
Yeah, read the same thing. As for the URL, been down that road before. That is why in my post to NTDOC did it this way:
quote:
Symantec has a KB article called "How to create a detailed installation log for Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition 8.0". I can't paste the link 'cause it's sooo looong. Goto http://www.symantec.com/techsupp/enterprise/products/sav/sav_8_ce/index.html and click "Knowledge Base" and then enter the search "install log"

Yeah, can you see the Auto Mfg using that line.

Replacing your brakes on your new Mercedes Benz is generally not required prior to using them, provided that they are not damaged.

I haven't had any problems so far installing CE 8.0 over the 7.6 clients that I have (50 or so so far).

I have had problems installing it over the servers...So far in order to get everything (liveupdate, AMS, etc...) working right...I have had to uninstall everything and reinstall per Symantec's instructions.

The system groups are a great addition.

I see that some people complain about Norton, but I have had A LOT more problems with McAffee in the past, plus McAffee has problems of letting virus outbreaks run rampant (ran into this in at least 2 sites) where I have had no problems of this sort with SAV.

I'm sure that Trend Micro's product is very good based on their Exchange product (easiest server install I've ever done), but I've never used their corporate AV product.

One thing that I definitely like about Symantec is that they have a very comprehensive knowledge base. They always seem to have a fix for whatever problems I am having.

All I need now is a good addition to my logon scripts that checks for install of SAV and runs installer if necessary.

Anyhow, ending this post and continuing my search on here for sample SAV install scripts.

Thanks,

THX

Well, we have been playing with the new one.

Symantec AntiVirus 8.0 build 837

Les,

Found the problem I was having with installs, the Microsoft Installer on a couple systems was damaged from something and was not able to be repaired. Other software programs were having problems installing.

So far we've found that you need an 8.0 console to push remotely to clients, you can't push to clients while your Master is still 7.x

We've also seen where clients with 7.x versions that were damaged have taken the new install and it was able to repair the damaged 7.x version and make it run properly, but it does not work on ALL damaged clients, but it does on some.

More to come as we review it more.
