This is so easy
Just ask the one's that's active if they want to become a mod, and if they consider to have the time for it. This is always something that can be revised, nothing's dead permanent with this.
An easy way to decide Crew membership is by polls, as mentioned. If a Crew member becomes inactive, just contact them and ask if they have time, if not, pput the modding on someone else.
@ Jack Lothian No, I didn't mean administrative boardrights when I mentioned a Crew. I meant only a Chat forum invisible to other than moderators and admin's (Henri). This is a place to discuss boardmoderation, for Henri to express how he would want the board to develop, and if he wants, delegate administrative tasks to persons. I don't know how well UBB handles permissions, but i'm sure there are some standard features for it.
The idea of having a Crew is somewhat contradictive. If the Crew does a good job, they're not needed (ie; they're not there to rule, but to help out), if you get my drift
All boards *have* a "Crew". Wether they want it or not more or less. It's not a matter of someone being more important than the other... It's just a matter of the degree of time and interest for the board, nothing more, nothing less. I don't think the majority of members look at it in any other way either. Of course there are always exceptions, but I think most of us here are mature enough, right?
I guess this reaches out towards Henri himself. My recommendation for him is; organize a Crew and just give a thought about what could be considered for delegation to the moderators and not. If all subsections are moderated like they already are today, focus cn instead be put on board technicalities, hosting and maintenance etc, and leave modding left to those that wants to handle it and feel they're up to it, based upon how you want the board to be run (ie; a Crew section with pointers). It doesn't have to be so danged complicated. Again, just make a run for it and see how it goes.
This is *so* right on sealeopard: quote: I think that the board (the members) is (are) actually so well behaved that there's nary a reason to moderate extensively. However, choosing the moderators from the TOP25 and requiring them to check at least every couple of days is very resonable and shouldn't involve too much work.
I'd also try to limit the number of forums as much as possible since the regulars will check all of them anyway.
