Hi,

I was wondering if this ( Directory Synchronization )can be done with KIX?.

This was done with VB .NET programming where it has a feature called FileSystemWatcher, Does WMI has similar feature (or any other method will do).

What I'm looking for is a script that will run as service and will continously monitor for changes on the Directory, the above program will work, however, it needs .NET framework 1.1 to be installed and I don't want to do that.

Thanks

Yes, KiXtart can. Get ROBOCOPY from the Windows 2003 Resource Kit and KiXtart v4.21

Setup the commands you want Robocopy to do, then create a task schedule and have KiXtart run as a task running a UDF that looks for added files or changes and if found launches Robocopy to update them.

Maybe not the most elegant, but should work.

NTDOC,

I know about Robocopy, however, I was hoping for a solution along the line of this presented by Chris which monitor NIC card for changes, which runs as a service on the target PC.

Using scheduled task to run the script every 1 minute, would it not use lots of PC resources?

You could probably use the Win32_PerfRawData_PerfDisk_LogicalDisk to monitor disk activity, then use FSO to compare a folder contents.

Sounds like the reinvention of the REPL service. The REPL service is not limited to just syncing NetLogon.

Les,

Never thought to use the REPL sevice for other than Netlogon replication, can it be used to replicat multiple directories simultaniously?.

How can it be used to replicate single Dir?

NTDOC,

Thanks for the links, however, I think all will require user input to activate the sync process between two DIR, except maybe DIRMON (not tested yet).

The good thing about this solution is that it runs as a service and ounce you input the source and destination DIR you can forget about it, and it supports multiple directories and the sync process is instant.

LASAD,
My comment was just a glib remark. Since you do not provide any detail as to the nature of replication, I cannot vouch for the REPL service's suitability. The M$ article 101602 explains the REPL service.

There are other replication options built into the OS, and DFS and AD's FRS come to mind. Again, without the knowledge of how and why you want replication, I cannot comment further.

Les,

I'm simply looking for a script/program which will help me maintain two DIR on two different servers synced (one way is good enough).

I keep pointing to .NET program because it is exactly what I want, however, it needs the .Net framwork 1.1 and I don't want to install it on any of my servers (yet), moreover, I want the script/program to run as a service (no user input required after specifying the source and dest. DIR), because I need not be there to issue the Sync command (it should be done automatically).

I would say that you can use the REPL service for this as it can do one-way-synchronization. Anything else will most likely create greater overhead, especially using a scripting language.
