Can somebody explain me the difference between KixForms and KixGUI, pro's and contra's ?
Which is best for what ? Furthermore, is it possible to place the files somewhere central with
a decent help file and sample scripts ??

I'm sure lots of people want to create nice graphics with Kix, but don't know where to start!

The differences and Pros and Cons ?

I don't think any one person knows enough about both products to give a qualified / unbiased answer to that [Wink] really.

I know that Kixforms has some features that KIXGUI doesn't have (like drawing graphics) and that KIXGUI has features that Kixforms doesn't have (like Common Dialogs) ...

Decent manuals and sample scripts ?

I think Alex has a Reference manual and some sample scripts with KIXGUI. And Kixforms ships with a Tutorial and Object Reference manual and more than a few sample scripts as well.

FYI, I just posted two of three very large sample scripts to the board here just yesterday. But heres a secret - the tricks and techniques you see using one snapin library can be ported over quite easily to the other !!! Don't tell anybody I said that ! [Wink]

Central download location ?

Thats a good idea !

Abve all, have fun with them !

Shawn,

I already had a look at your posts, looks very impressive !! I will surely dive deeper into them to see what they are doing and how i can clone the code for my own usage [Wink]

With a decent manual i was reffering to some sort of html help, like the one available for kix. Maybe something like that is also possible for those two nice add-ons ?! Just an idea [Smile]

Anyway, keep on posting !!

I have an HTML manual started (thanks to Rogier's help for that). But my goal was to finish the Word document first, you know work-out all the bugs and formatting and stuff, then once it leveled-off, convert it to HTML.

One of the other problems is that Kixforms will be a growing concern over the next little. Im not finished even putting in one-half of the features I want to cram in there ... and I've only done about a half of the number of controls that will be there. So yeah, they'll be some growing pains along the way, and changes.

Plus don't forget ... these snapins are very new (to the public domain anyways). There are only a handfull of scripts out there and most of the neat tricks and techniques haven't even been discovered yet.

What I think that Alex and I want hear is lots of feedback and suggestions and folks using it and posting scripts and finding bugs and all that good stuff.

Hey Shawn,
well, i don't see what could be say in addition to you .. ah yes :
As Shawn said, very few people know exactly what each components are offering. At a time, Kixforms was most designed for graphical use than KiXGUI, most suitable for some office needs. Actually, Shawn works a lot on Kixforms, to a point that i don't know what it's hidding in his dark methods [Wink]
but the real problem is the state of such tools : I'm getting great reports (very few bugs) now, but this component are too young to public users to really smack them to the ground. Even their creator (Shawn and myself) are finding new stuff with them everyday [Wink]

Please, don't said everywhere that it's really easy to port a Kixforms script to KiXGUI and vice-versa (well, assuming you don't use too much specifics commands) [Big Grin]

Shawn, the CHM builder is great, isn't it ?
