It could also be that the reason for the dismal search results is that you are using the Google search at the bottom of the page and not the UBB search at the top. The UBB search is far superior to Google's.
If you see only the ABC's sticky topics and few or no others, then you have your view options in your personal profile set only to recent documents. scroll down to the bottom of the page where you see Extra information and under that you will see a Show dropdown list with a Change button. Change the option to from all dates and click the Change button.
