Question:
Does your client want to prevent them from logging into the network or does he want to prevent the users to connect to a particular server via file/printer sharing?

Those are two different issues. Issue number one has been solved above.

Issue number two can be solved, too, by manipulationg the 'log on from network' rights on the particular server. Essentially, deny network logon for the specified time period to the specific users and they will still be able to log into the network but not able to access the blocked server.
