Has anyone written anything to display/capture any SNMP traps?

Use the BBS Search to find relevant articles about SNMP. However, I do not remember anybody actually scripted something that can manage SNMP. The search would reveal topics like Way O/T - SNMP

There are two problems major with trying to capture SNMP traps in KiXtart.

1) KiXtart has no native network support. This means that you cannot create listeners to wait for traps without a 3rd party DLL and some kludgy code. I did some work on this a while ago (search this site for wsocklib) but abandoned it as KiXtart is simply not the right tool for the job because...

2) KiXtart has no support for binary data types. This means that you cannot read/write sensibly on a network endpoint, unless you can guarantee that all the data are simple ASCII strings.

As the data that you will receive from a trap will contain network encoded strings and numbers you will not be able to do anything with them in KiXtart.

If you want to write your own SNMP trap software, get hold of a 'C' compiler (MinGW is pretty good and costs nowt), and read up the RFCs on SNMP.

However, SNMP traffic is enormously complex if you are just starting out. You'd do better to scour the web for software which does what you want.
