Anyone know how to script outlook into importing a saved rule from the rule wizard.

I'd like to avoid autoit/scriptit.

ME TOO!!!!

I've GOT to change the forward of an account while migrating the server....

( about 450 accounts)

so I need to get some registry values/ files to SET a rule before I swap the exchange sever of the user. ( oh... 2 NT-domains and 2 DNS domains)

Don't "server based" rules follow the user? And if migrating to a new server, can't you use the Move Mailbox command or EXMERGE from the Resource Kit? Just throwing ideas out there. Not 100% sure myself!

The client side rules are held in C:\Documents and Settings\jtokach\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook

(Obviously replace jtokach with the user's id)

The .RWZ file contains the client side rules. If you have several, open the reg to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows Messaging Subsystem\Profiles

The profile listed under defaultprofile is the profile that Outlook uses automatically when starting, if you don't have manual profile selection enabled. Otherwise, match the name of the profile to the proper .RWZ file.

This file, along with the others in this dir can be copied to the new machine. However, if the new outlook profile has a different name, all of the files must be renamed to that profile name in order for Outlook to recognize them. Also note that if these files do not exist, outlook generates these files automatically with the proper names. Delete those and rename your files with those names.

Hope that's what you're looking for.

specifically, I have an exported client rule, that I would like to 'deploy'/import to specific users.

I can't overwrite the client files, as they may have additional custom rules.

Why have a client-side rule? I mean if you happen to switch to another workstation and you happen to select Server-Side rules, doesn't the system toss out the client-side?

regardless of it being client-side or server-side, is there a way to script the import and/or creation of a rule.

Rad,

Did some digging..

Even in the VBA Editor in Outlook and pressing F2 to access the objects, don't see anything with regard to Rules.

Also, looked on through Candace Tripp on http://www.utteraccess.com -
