I know what you mean about the laptop kbd. When in the office, mine is hooked to a KVM switch so my numlock is always on. Then, when I take to the road, I always forget about the numlock and it takes several tries to logon. DOH!
That's because I hack InitialKeyboardIndicators to have numlock on before logon on all the computers. Cuts down on HelpDesk calls but not such a good idea on laptops.
