jtokach jtokach Seasoned Scripter Registered: 2001-11-15 Posts: 513 Loc: PA, USA	This post is spawned from the Board Effectiveness Post [I think]We need an easier way to share files due to the obviously expanding complexity of the projects that are being released. I was going to make this a poll but saw little value as this topic deservse more discussion. Who thinks we could benefit from a centralized open source repository like sourceforge.net? From what I have noticed, there have been several somewhat large projects posted to the forum in just the past week. A problem that I see is in the dissemination of the of the packages and certainly with version control. Does anyone have the time and resources to manage such a project? We don't need a pretty website; a closely monitored FTP site would be a great start. If data laundering is a concern, maybe only supply the moderators with upload accounts? A web implementation of a CVS type system would be incredible, but low hanging fruit seems more attractive at this point. Or, is this just a plain dumb idea? Henri has provided http://helpdesk.kixtart.org/ with some space and there you can find CL Utilities to download. It would be nice to have everything centrally located though to offer one stop shopping. I think it would really lend itself to the growth of the Kix community as well. But judging by the unpopularity of the topic so far, it seems that no one wants to be locked into that responsiblity, which is completely understandable. Let me see about sourceforge. I think we could have some site named: gallery.kixtart.org which has nothing else but softlink to someones server. this way the server changing or new hoster is no problem. We already have several, and to add yet another IMHO serves not the community. MCA has been trying to consolidate them on his site, often I think, of his own volition. Rather than MCA trying to stay on top of them all, the author should take the initiative. I say, ask Henri for some space and then, if he agrees, everyone that has content would send it to Henri. I mean, he already has a download area both at kixtart.org/downloads/ and helpdesk.kixtart.org/Download/ so lets just expand on that, keeping everything on the one site. _________________________ Give a man a fish and he will be back for more. I have a site, but I have not "created" the pages. 35GB and 100GB Traffic Will try to create some pages and check into how I can handle the file uploads to the site and still maintain some kind of security. Will get back with you upon page updates.
