didn't bother rtfm before answering. my bad.

this is going to the side of quessing and I would run over that installation... (don't like win9x)

anyway, it can be a firewall software or almost any soft that uses the same port as rpc can deny the access.
slow net for the rpc supporting dll's may cause timeout (which can be tested by copying the dll's to local windows directory).

anyway, seems a lot of work and quickest way would be re-installation...
