Yes, I do understand, but it sounds to me like he has a boot floppy where he tries to set IP information in order to establish a TCP/IP connection to a central location. I also assume that he then uses this connection to reimage the server. Therefore, when he tries to load the network drivers, the local computer is still functional and he should be able to access the local harddrive in order to read that file.
