I am having a problem on Windows 2000 clients. If I request the client's IP address using the @ipaddress0 macro, it takes up to a minute to return the information. This only seems to happen if the user has only "standard user" privileges. If I put the user's account into Power Users or Administrators, @ipaddress0 returns immediately.

Has anyone else experienced this problem?

My current workaround is to use enumipinfo() instead.

Hello AbqBill

Please provide further information on your server, clients, and KiX version.

Server - NT/2000?
Clients - 2000 SP0 SP1 or SP2?
KiXtart version you're using?
KiXtart called from LOGON Server or Locally from client?

Does the same thing happen if the @ipaddress0 call is the ONLY piece of code in the script?

Server: Irrelevant, since the script is executing entirely on the client.

Client: Windows 2000 SP2.

KiXtart version: 2001 4.02 (last non-beta).

Called from logon server or locally: Both.

Same thing happens if @ipaddress0 is the only thing in the script: Yes.

Bill,

Welcome back to the board! We have not seen you around here in a while. [Smile]

Some environmental questions..
(1) In your server environment, do you have it in Mixed or Native Mode?
(2) Clients - DHCP?
(3) I assume from your original post, this is all W2K clients out there?
(4) Have these always been slow? If not, what has changed? Topology? Software update? New version of VirusScan?

Thanks,

Kent

Hi Kent,

Our servers are Windows NT servers. No AD yet. Clients are DHCP, but this seems to have no bearing as the problem occurs whether I assign a static IP or not. The slowness only seems to occur on Windows 2000 if the user logging on is only a member of Users. If I add the user to Power Users or Administrators, @ipaddress0 returns immediately. No delay on Windows 98.
