Hi

I know this type of problem has been posted many times but here we go again.

I have 5 NT4 Domain Controllers running KIX3.63, with no KIXRPC service. I have 200 Win95 clients who run the logon script from a DC. The logon script runs OK until the final stages where the log files are created.

During the final stages an illegal operation occurs, I have checked that all DC servers have the same KIX version, I do not believe I need the KIXRPC service, has anyone got any suggestions for possible workaround.

BrianTX BrianTX Korg Regular Registered: 2002-04-01 Posts: 895	You've got a long script here... if the problem is at the bottom, what is the last line that functions before the error? You can test this by commenting out a few lines at a time until you no longer get the error.... I also notice you use "command.com" quite a bit in your script. Have you tried using %comspec% instead? I'm not sure how well KiXtart behaves if redirecting output to a file on a server (UNC PATH). I have stopped the network log file, error still appears. I have now stopped the local log file to see if this has any effect. Is it possible the @macros are causing excessive RPC calls to the logon servers?? Regards Halogen

First we think about two things
- RedirectOutput works too slow.
- MD command aborts your script when directory already exist.
Our suggestion is to replace RedirectOutput by Open/WriteLine/Close
functions.

Try running following script. We have add some debugging code to it with
our tool kixstrip which you can find on our site.
Our call was:

kixstrip input.kix output.kix /debug

We have comment all your RedirectOutput statements. We have modify
"command.com" in "%comspec%".
We haven't implement the Open/WriteLine/Close suggestion. You can see
what the real problem with your code is.

The output will be written to the specified file c:\kixdebug.log

Organization want to finish their project at the end of this month. Wee- kend are our hours. We only are reading all old and new topics, but we know that an amount of kixtart friends are missing us when we doesn't put any reaction on the board for only one day.
