richard, wasn't it the case allready (which has been spoken by ruud a year ago) that control characters inside string is not interpreted?
like
$x="12"
? "$x"
would give "$x" to console
and so it should be also with other control chars.
no special handling on just one of those 'cause it makes it still harder to understand when can and when can't use inside of string.
