Hi, maybe someone can help here. I am running a w2k terminal server, when users run a logon script there is an error logged in the event log. (Event log error below) This is with Kix2001. with the older version of kix, the eventlog error is slightly different. This happens with every logon and only on the terminal server, not on normal w2k pro workstations. It does not appear to be permissions as the admin account also logs the error. The error is also logged if I run the script locally. i.e. the files are on the terminal server. If anyone has seen and resolved this or has any advice, I would appreciate the help.
"The description for Event ID ( 35 ) in Source ( KIXTART ) cannot be found. The local computer may not have the necessary registry information or message DLL files to display messages from a remote computer. The following information is part of the event: Failed to find a NetBIOS interface. The @ADDRESS macro will be empty. Error : (0x23/35)."

Adrian,
Welcome to the board?
What version(s) of Kix are you working with here?
With W2k, you should be ** at least ** 3.63 or better.
Thanks!

I seem to be having the same issue. I am using Kix ver. 4.0.2...
also another error that shows up in the event logs is: "The description for Event ID ( 35 ) in Source ( KIXTART ) cannot be found. The local computer may not have the necessary registry information or message DLL files to display messages from a remote computer. The following information is part of the event: Failed to retrieve NIC address Error : (0x23/35)."
I recieve both errors messages, and they seem to only appear when TermServ'ing into a system.

Hi, Thanks for the input. Im running a Compaq DL360 with duel nic's teamed. I will try removing the team as soon as I can get some down time. Just an interesting observation, You get a diiferent event error depending on the version of Kix.
Thanks Cheers Adrian

I've also seen this same error on servers and workstations that have virtual NICs installed such as a VPN adapter. Do you all think a good feature would be to turn off all errors to the event log? It looks messy with non-crucial errors in the event log of a production server.

I keep getting the message below in the application log. This even happens on a script with nothing in it except exit. I remember reading somewhere that kixtart automatically loads some information each time it runs for quicker access. I can not find that information now. The machines are compaq and gateway systems.
The description for Event ID ( 35 ) in Source ( KIXTART ) cannot be found. The local computer may not have the necessary registry information or message DLL files to display messages from a remote computer. The following information is part of the event: Failed to find a NetBIOS interface. The @ADDRESS macro will be empty. Error : (0x23/35).
I am logged in with a domain admin account. Yes there are active network cards. The error appears even with a just an exit command in the script. Nothing Else.
The nics are not teamed. I would like to know how to elimante this error.

Same here Wayne. I posted a message in the Suggestions forum so hopefully they'll see it. I asked for a feature to get rid of error messages before 4.00 came out but it never got put in there.

What is the deal? On some machines it does not log the error on others it does.

I'm getting this message (as well) ...
We do have teamed NICs BUT so does the other (same config) DELL server that doesn't get the error message.

Thanks (sealeopard),
Upgrading to Kix 4.10 seemed to fix the problem - but why does the other server still running Kix 4.02 doesn't have the same problems.
Oh well I suppose it is just a case of accept and get on with life.
