Has anyone got a stand-alone installer for Windows Critical Update Notification? I am sick of having to patch IE and Windows every week. My users won't (can't/afraid to) run windows update, I figure this is my best solution. Any ideas would be appreciated

Jamie,

Welcome someone from my neck of the woods!

For Internet Explorer, you should probably be looking into the IEAK and is available from - http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ieak/default.asp

This should give the ability to not only Deploy but provide updates for Internet Explorer to your clients as well.

Hotfixes and patches to Windows? Look into the Qchain Utility from Microsoft as well. It is available from - http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q296/8/61.ASP

You can also scan your whole network with the HFNETCHK Tool too - http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/q303/2/15.asp

It supports:

  • Microsoft Windows 2000 Advanced Server
  • Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional
  • Microsoft Windows 2000 Server
  • Microsoft Windows NT Server version 4.0
  • Microsoft Windows NT Server, Enterprise Edition version 4.0
  • Microsoft Windows NT Workstation version 4.0
  • Microsoft SQL Server versions 7.0, 7.0 Service Pack 1, 7.0 Service Pack 2, 7.0 Service Pack 3
  • Microsoft SQL Server 2000 (all editions) 2000 SP1
  • Microsoft Internet Information Server 4.0
  • Microsoft Internet Information Services version 5.0
  • Microsoft Internet Explorer versions 5.01, 5.01 Service Pack 1, 5.01 Service Pack 2, 5.5, 5.5 Service Pack 1, 5.5 Service Pack 2 for Windows 2000
  • Microsoft Internet Explorer versions 5.01, 5.01 Service Pack 1, 5.01 Service Pack 2, 5.5, 5.5 Service Pack 1, 5.5 Service Pack 2 for Windows NT 4.0
  • Microsoft Data Engine (MSDE), version 1.0
    Microsoft Windows XP Professional

HTH,

- Kent
