It's possible there is an issue with "start". I've always kept things simple when using su to launch things (username,pass and file to run). Unfortunatly the documentation provided with su is not all that detailed.

If you call your .com file from Kix, (ie: shell "%comspec% /c M:\INSTALL\ie55sp1.com") the dos box should close with no problems.
