knotty,

not during the login , cos HKCU isn't available for login Scripts ...

You may wanny try to run this part of the Script through the RUN Key (HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run)

Knotty,

In your KIX Script, do the following:

code:

$hkcus = 'HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE'
$hklms = 'HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE'

;*************************************************************************************
; SET http://intranet.adroitgroup.co.uk as the Homepage in Internet Explorer
;*************************************************************************************
$rc=WRITEVALUE($hkcus+"\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main","Start Page","http://intranet.adroitgroup.co.uk","REG_SZ")
$rc=WRITEVALUE($hklms+"\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main","Default_Page_URL","http://intranet.adroitgroup.co.uk","REG_SZ")

Thanks!

- Kent

Jpols:

On NT 4 Workstation, I have no problem changing the start page for IE under HKCU, I have been doing this through my login script for quite sometime. Changing things under HKLM is another story, unless the user has admin rights.

Do you have any detailed information on issues with HKCU at login?

Thanks!

hmmm .. at least i thought HKCU isn't available during logon !
Does set RunLogonScriptSync to 1 ships this around ?? No I don't think so ....

btw. that is pointing to Policies !
The easiest way should be:
get yourself the Policy template for ie and set the start page through this !

Deception,

Under NT, you should only need Power User Privs to get to HKCU..

Dear,

  • By NT we doesn't have any problem to modify the HKCU hive settings for
    Internet Explorer.
We need no special privileges, because any user can change by default
it's starting page by the Options menu of Internet Explorer.
Only changing your environment with f.e. policie-settings can prevent
    such changes.
  • For 95/98 there are no restriction to modify your HKLM keys.
Modifications to your HKCU can be a problem by using mandatory or roaming
    profiles.

  • see for topic
    http://kixtart.org/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=2&t=002104
for "how to starts a kixtart script by a RUN entry in your
    registry.

Greetings.
