Hello mvdw,
look at http://www.swynk.com/winscript/DOCS_ShutDownRemotePCs.asp

It is a vbs-script which CAN logoff users REMOTE(!). It should run under NT and 2000. I have seen it yet only running under Windows2000 and it works!

Have you thought about using the RCMD service on the remote computer?
Using RCMD would let you execute a local shutdown/logout command.

It would be possible to code those WMI interfaces in the link/VB script that JensKalski has posted......hmmm a challenge!!!

Well maybe an idea to try. However, our systems and many other users according to Microsoft, have disabled WSCRIPT, CSCRIPT by WSH due to the past usage by bone heads wanting to write virus code with it.

Any full scale WSH usage would not work for many companies, but if you do have it running I'm sure it could be done.

Hello NTDOC,
you do only need WMI on all machines and WSH on the machine that calls the WMI-interface on the targetmachine.

Thanks Bryce,

I'll check back for it Monday or so. That could be a useful tool in some cases.

Have you got any further on your script that adds users to remote machine groups?

my groupedit adsi stuff....

I think the problems I am coming up against, is the lack of the ADSI installed on the NT4.0 domain controllers...

I have not had the time to test this yet, but it does make sence.

Maybe this also helps:

An application to perform remote logoff on NT workstations:

Explanation on the usage

The webpage to download Logoff.zip from

There are probably more tools on the internet, but this one popped up first... I'll see if I can find another one which is not a Beta.

Promising, gentlemen.

of course it is a pity that we cannot reach them **standard** NT4 clients with WMI, but it is nice with the 2k.

Ciao,
MvdW

ps Jeroen, the util you're referring to is the same as mentioned earlier this topic.
