I am adding a section to my script to check for/install Innoculan updates. All it requires is a batch file to be run called avupdate.bat. I have included the following line in my script:

;*******************************
;* InnoculatIT Update for Win95*
;*******************************
SHELL "\\servername\netlogon\avupdate.bat"

It doesn't seem to work however. I can browse to the avupdate.bat file and it does run so I'm at a loss....any help would be appreciated!

try

code:

shell "%comspec% /c \\servername\netlogon\avupdate.bat"

also I think win9x computers might have a problem from running a bat file from a UNC location, but I might be wrong.

this is how I handle my InoculateIT stuff for win95...

if $Dialedin = "yes"
$inocupd = "unknown"
WHILE $inocupd = "unknown"
MESSAGEBOX ("Do you want to update InoculateIT at this time?","InoculateIT",4388,120)
SELECT
case @error = "6"
MESSAGEBOX ("Please click YES to confirm update.","InoculateIT",4388,120)
if @error = "6"
$inocupd = "YES"
endif
if @error = "7"
$inocupd = "unknown"
endif
case @error = "7"
MESSAGEBOX ("Are you sure you want to skip InoculateIT update?","InoculateIT",4388,120)
if @error = "6"
$inocupd = "NO"
endif
if @error = "7"
$inocupd = "unknown"
endif
case 1
;nothing
ENDSELECT
LOOP
else
$inocupd = "YES"
endif
if $inocupd = "YES"
$avupdpath="\\" + $Inocserver + "\cheyupd$$\avupdate.exe"
Shell '%comspec% /c call $avupdpath'
endif

I also check my winnt machines and log if they do not have InoculateIT installed like so...

$inocpath = $hiddenshare + "\" + $logdir + "\" + $inoclist
$inocquery = Exist("$inocpath")
$inockey = existkey( "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ComputerAssociates\InoculateIT\CurrentVersion\DOMAIN" )
if $inocquery = "0"
OPEN (1,"$inocpath",5)
Writeline(1,"NT Computers Needing InoculateIT Installed" + Chr(13) + Chr(10))
Writeline (1,"." + Chr(13) + Chr(10))
CLOSE(1)
endif
if $inockey <> "0"
if OPEN (1,"$inocpath",2) = 0
$readline=Readline(1)
WHILE @error = 0
if $readline <> "\\" + @wksta
$writeinoc="1"
else ;$readline = "\\" + @wksta
$writeinoc="0"
endif
$readline=Readline(1)
LOOP
endif
CLOSE (1)
if $writeinoc = "1"
OPEN (1,"$inocpath",4)
WRITELINE (1,"\\" + @wksta + Chr(13) + Chr(10))
CLOSE(1)
endif
endif

Check the file \\server\cheyupd$\login.bat
This is a sample provided by CA to install the updates. Users must have NTFS rights to read from this share point down in order to run AVupdate.exe, receive signature updates and install the app.

Winnt PC's use a pull system and must be configured for "distribution" as incoming from a remote server who's role typically would also be the Autodownload server. IE> You don't do ANYTHING in your login scripts fro WINNT.
