I think you need to specify remote access in your readvalue() function, like this ...$dir=readvalue("\\$WRKSTA\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\App Paths\excel.exe","Path")
