Alright I've got another scenerio that I'm wondering if anyone has elegantly solved already. My main logon script is now pretty good in that it sucks up all sorts of info from the hosts.. now I want to start centrally tracking this information (including errors). I could do it like caveman textfile style or deal with an actual database engine (oracle, sql, foxpro etc)... has anyone dealt with this issue and have any comments on it? Right now I'm sort of leaning towards configuring the ODBC settings to create a System DSN to a SQL 7.0 database and sending out information from the logon scripts via .. shell commands..?

What do you people think eh?

Nice problem.. but I've not yet solved it.
I do have some Idea's on it:

- Use OLE to MSAccess and in MSAccess have a file with ODBC links to the database.
- Write your own C program that you can talk to in KiX using command line parameters. That C program than puts the parameters in the Database using ODBC.

Goodluck solving this very cool challenge.

I'm using a kind of auditing tool since 4 month with Kix, and it works great:

Basically, it works like that:

When a user log in, the main script starts an do the basic stuff (mapping,...).
Then, it calls an other script to do the auditing job: this will fill in a variable with information (taken from the registry, @macros or files) separated with commas. In my case, it will look like that:
1999/09/24,08:47:32,MyUserId,SCHEURER Flavien,MyPcName,MyIpAddress,MyMacAddress,W95;2259336,OKRUNOK,Nav19990907,DNSOK,COE4.5,97ProSR2,R5+LS97,4.6.3,4.5.2,\\MyLogonServer
Next, the script will create a file which will contains only the result of that variable described before. This file will be saved in a known location in one of ours BDCs. For example \\MyBDC01\LOG$\MyPcName.LOG . So, each time a user log in, he will create a log file with all the information I need.
Meanwhile, a scipt is running locally on \\MyBDC01: it take all these files, makes one big text file and renames it to LOG.CSV.

Right now, I've got a usable .CSV file: I could just double-click on it to have Excel opening it... Or I could insert this file into an Excel sheet through the ODBC text file driver, which is actually what I'm doing!
In fact, this Excel sheet is really helpfull for us (more than 600 users to take care off).

That's cool... actually I started down that path already before reading your solution. What I did was very similar, I wrote a section of code that dumps all the important variables from my main script to a macaddress.csv file (comma delimited) then it copies that file to the PDC of the particular domain. Then I have a utility which collects the contents of each of the directories onto one server nightly (or whenever commanded). Then a VB program sucks up the contents of all those .csv files into a SQL database. It will overwrite the information in the database records with new data but it has the extra bonus of added intelligence. When certain items change instead of overwriting, it will flag warnings or perform other specific functions which make my life a lot easier. In a way I guess Kixtart + a little VB replaced SMS :p bwhah --I love it.
