Detecting wrong IP addresses

I have a file that contain all Macadresses and respective IP addresses of the computers. TCPIP is specified so as to identify them ( over 700 ). I am trying to use Kix scripts to change the IP addresses and reboot the PC if the PC is using the wrong IP addresses. Any pointers or help will be appreciated. I cannot afford to use DHCP as it has too many subnets. Thanks

What do you mean that you have to many subnets for DHCP? Have you looked at: Q161571 Windows NT 4.0 Service Pack 2 (SP2) provides support for a new DHCP "superscope" feature. This feature allows a Windows NT DHCP server to: - Support DHCP clients on locally attached networks that have multiple logical subnets on one physical network (sometimes referred to as a "multi-net"). - Support DHCP clients on the far side of bootp relay agents, where the network on the far side of the relay agent has multiple logical subnets on one physical network. #Q120932

There is a decision by the network adminsitrator in not providing a DHCP server in each subnet. Any way, what I hope to achieve is to assign the correct IP address to the correct PC. Thanks.

With kix32 it is not possible to detect the MAC address. You need to write a program in C or an other language that will do the trick for you !

You could make a script like that (I suppose the format of your IPs file is 00112233445566 172. 1. 1.254). This is supposed to work only with W95 (I didn't test it). OPEN(1,"YourIPfile.txt",2) :LOOP $X=READLINE(1) IF $X="" GOTO END ENDIF IF @ADDRESS=SUBSTR($X,1,12) AND @IPADDRESS0<>SUBSTR($X,14,28) WRITEVALUE("HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\TheKeyWhereWindows95StoreTheIP","TheSubkey",SUBSTR($X,14,28,"REG_SZ") ENDIF GOTO LOOP :END CLOSE(1)Good luck!

What you are trying to do is completely nuts. Use kix login scripts to manage IP addresses?! Use DHCP you crazy loon. Tell your network administrator to use DHCP to make everyone's job easier.
