I have not fully examined your code, but you must be doing something to redefine it or it is somehow scoped and not available in your nested functions.

my bet (about 97% sure) is that you set it in the scripts you call.
as it's not being screwed in the mainscript I bet it's overwritten in the called script.

remember, unless you dim your variables, they are global.
