Hi, Were using Kixtart on our province wide WAN. The KiXtart program is located on our 4 Domain controllers along with the logon scripts for each school. When we use windows 2000 or xp, then logon script works perfictly, but when we use windows 95 or 98 they do not map any drives. when using a 98 machine, i can log onto the domain, and run the scripts off of DC3 and DC4 manually, and they map drives like their supposed to, but if i go to DC1 or DC2, and try to run them manually, it gives me a script not found error, ive looked all through the forum, and i havent found anything to fix my problem, could you help me?

Does this mean you have the KXRPC file on the Win9x computers or properly installed and running as a service on the domain controllers?

Have you verified that ALL the KiXtart files and supporting DLLs are available to the client and the all the script files are replicated to ALL domain comtrollers?

We found that copying the KiXtart binaries to the win9x clients improved performance and eliminated some failures to execute the scripts.

Also, I do not see where you tell us how you invoke the logon script for your clients. This information is important.

The logon script is told to run in active directory, i didnt, set the user up, or the logon script, i just gotta find out whats wrong with it, and try to fix it. But we did go back, and verify that the logon scrpit, and all the user settings were correct.

What do you mean setup in Active Directory? Win9x does not participate in Group Policy. Please tell us everything. Every statement you make only seems to lead us to ask more questions.

The above post includes a URL to our FAQ forum. Did you click the link or just answer you looked at the manual?

Our network spans accross the entire province, Each school has its own server. the servers run windows 2003. in each school there are about 100 comptuers windows 95, 98, 2000 and XP. i am having no trouble with the windows 2000/XP comptuers. the school that i am in right now has approx 900 users. there are 15000 in this district, and i have no clue how many in the province. each student has an account which is set up in active directory. they need to long onto the computers, and have the logon script run off of the domain controllers at the main office (around 200KM from here). The logon script off of those DC's map drives to the local servers at the schools. Right now we have one user at this school created for the students that should map drives on the windows 98 computers. but it doesnt. when the script tries to run, it gives this error:

------------------------------------------

In-Page IO Execerption occurred.
This type of exception is thrown by the windows memory manager when it fails to (re)read code from this KiXtart executable.
Common causes for this excerption include:
-running WKIX32 from a batchfile without using START /w
-forced redirection of the network drive from which KiXtart was started
-severe network errors/latency
-faulty anti-virus software

Batch file missing

C:\WINDOWS>Invalid drive specification.

------------------------------------------

Our school networks run at 100Mbs, and all the schools are connected through 10Mbs pipelines. we use McAfee for our antivirus. this is the script that we use:

There are also 3600 Computers in this district. P133's - P4 2.4's. and 6 technicians to look after them. we just started puttin in our 2003 servers (Xeon 2.4's) in all of the high schools. WE used to have novell servers, but they were getting slow.

This is most likely your problem:

USE Z: /DELETE

The Z: drive is used by Win9x to connect to the DC for logon and reading the logon script.

School salesman - Interesting concept. [Wink] I suspect "them" refers to central Net Admin.
