It sounds like you have other network problems. Can you ping the server from this computer? I think not. Do you run WINS and/or DNS for name resolution?
Please provide as much info as you can. I hate pulling teeth.

Howard,
Thanks immensely for your help, I have the problem nailed down and kixtart is working. Which was the impetus to make the post. The fact that the other 8 lines of code map drives to servers all over the network (by name) and work fine, it was just the above line had 2 differences 1) the use of the macro and the hidden share symbol and 2) it was on this new server ( its a 2k member server ) the first one at our site. Name resolution is working at least after fully loading and I can ping the server by NETBIOS name. We use WINS on a NT4 network. It's weird there is something going on, on Tuesday I will investigate the name resolution issues, I may just copy lmhosts file down the the 98 clients in the initial BAT. That should take care of name resolution for that server even if something weird is going on at login. At least until we can figure out what is really going on. There are other places to discuss windows networking woes.
It was the use of the @userid print statements and the @error @serror that ended up showing me what was going on.
Again thanks so much for your help!

The other 7-8 lines (cant remember exactly..)
were the same (like I said above) they were lines like
USE : "\\servername\sharename"
and as I mentioned above all these lines work with name, it is the just the line that uses the @USERID hidden share that was posing the problems.
I am sorry I put this line in that post: Any ideas why that name would not resove but the other 7 lines without the concetenation work fine?
you guys have done more than enough for me on this issue already.
Thanks Again

As I mentioned above (and failed to just mention) the line in question also mapped to this new 2k member server, the first at our site. When we first brought it up there were issues with the ip it was installed ons' being returned, used ipconfig /registerdns on it but was still in WINS database, name resolution is surely no fault of KiXtart, nor did I wish to imply that my problem was NOT network related. I am sure now (after seeing the error message, that I admittedly should have gleened out of the Starters Guide and or manual but did not. I truly appreciate your willingness to help me ( or prove me an idiot I cant tell which so I will go with the positive) but my current issue with kixtart is solved, and I will surely try to be more descriptive, complete and well read before I post in the future.
I was under pressure to get it figured out and I surely would not have done so without the help I received here.
