chase chase Fresh Scripter Registered: 2002-06-28 Posts: 22	USE H: "\\Server Name\USERS\" USE S: "\\Serer Name\SHARED" We are a small Windows 2000 Active Directory network using DHCP. Our Win 98 users are now having a problem where they drop their mapped drives. The user clicks on the drive and it says they are denied access and then their account is locked out. It seems to happen around the time of a lease renewal but is not consistent. out Win 2000 and XP users do not have this problem. Any ideas? I've shown my mapped drives script above.

Unless when you say "It seems to happen around the time of a lease renewal" you mean more than once a day. code: If Exist ("H:\.") USE "H:" /DELETE Endif If Exist ("S:\.") USE "S:" /DELETE Endif USE H: "\\Server Name\USERS\" USE S: "\\Serer Name\SHARED"

If this is the default user directories created by the user manager they won't. The users directories created by the user manager have ownership rights set only not the share rights. If you wish to create individual user shares for Win9x clients you must create real shares. _________________________ Jack

The reason that I mentioned "real" shares is you map: USE H: "\\Server Name\USERS\" This is not the usual users' home directory but it is the directory that the user manager creates to hold the actual user directories. It is very unusual to enter a user home directory this way. If you created actual user shares it would be something like: USE H: \\Server Name\@USERID$ _________________________ Jack

chase chase Fresh Scripter Registered: 2002-06-28 Posts: 22	Jack on Windows 98 users, I didn't think I could map deep therefore I only map to the users folder level. The reason is that I've tried to map Win 98 users to their respective folders before and it didn't work. However, I don't remember the code. If you have any additional comments, please let me know.

chase chase Fresh Scripter Registered: 2002-06-28 Posts: 22	I am pretty confident that I have a workable answer from M$. There are two solutions for this. First there are hotfixes for the win98 and winME desktops and second there is a command to disable the autodisconnect configuration on the server. M$ says that this will correct this problem on the win 98 and win ME desktops.

When a DHCP lease is renewed, the win 98 desktop sends an encrypted password to the server. As a consequence, in our case for some reason, the server sees an expired encryption key and disconects the shares via it's autodisconnect feature. The solution is to put the M$ 98 and ME hotfixes on the desktops. Or if the environment has many clients using 98 and ME, the autodisconnect feature can be disabled at the server by running: net config server /autodisconnect:-1 quote: at a command prompt. If one has a problem and solved it successfully, it would be a good practice to post the solution to the problem as it is very likely that somebody else might run into the same problem.
