kixcrypt version 002.12b with Unkown software exception 0xc00000fd at location 0x77ea13fb
WORKS
kixcrypt.exe -D qnew.kix \\qnewsfile\logon\kix32.exe %s
Running on W2K-WS SP3
Any ideas?

kixcrypt qnew.kix
Still problems. Please download kixcrypt again and retry it.
Can you try it also on another windows version?
What are the related error messages in eventlog?
Please return the results.

Yes, I also tried a new download, but as you can see in the edited post above, it fails in a like manner. I believe it is related to the alternate location call because the basic:
kixcrypt.exe qnew.kix
works.
And, my version is listed in my first post as:
kixcrypt version 002.12b.

I think Richard needs to look at this one!
Believe it or not, what fixes it is changing the
LOGON name to something else and then it works just fine.
FAILS
KIXCRYPT.EXE %1.KIX \\QNEWSFILE\LOGON\KIX32.EXE %%s
WORKS
KIXCRYPT.EXE %1.KIX \\QNEWSFILE\LOGN\KIX32.EXE %%s
I had created a share on our local resource domain so I did not have to keep waiting for replication from NETLOGON.
Can someone check with Richard to see what is special about "LOGON"

First, I would like to thank all of you for your enthusiastic help.
Second, I can add more info on the problem.
I took the whole thing home and tried it on MY domain that does not have a LOGON share. -- It still fails when LOGON is used and works when LOGN is used, neither of which exist on my domain.
Third, I do not believe that shares or rights have any thing at all to do with the encryption phase of the program. As I surmise, this program is just embedding a call to \\PATH\KIX32.EXE with a passed parameter of the name of the .KIX script and then encrypting the whole thing into one .EXE. None of this packaging should need to validate any paths, only the .KIX script existence.
So, the question that remains is what is special about the word LOGON.
Richard wrote KixCrypt and is probably the only one that can answer why LOGON is triggering it.
BTW, have any of you tried to reproduce the exact same error with a dummy script using the same calls?
That would confirm the problem as I have done at home.

The problem clearly is related to the command line as far as I can tell. I created a dummy QNEW.KIX as shown below:
; QNEW .KIX
and encrypted it with the following command line:
KIXCRYPT.EXE qnew.KIX \\QNEWSFILE\LOGON\KIX32.EXE %s
Same error! So would someone please confirm this?
MORE INFO:
KIXCRYPT.EXE qnew.KIX \\QNEWSFILE\XXXXX\KIX32.EXE %s - FAILS

We have trying above kixcrypt command. With Kixcrypt 2.12b we doesn't have any problems.
So we have an example for you. You can download it temporarily from F6378.exe
The script we were using as qnew.kix is

When we are trying to run it in our environment we get following information

WARNING: Temporary file not deleted by KiXtart!
Our statement was (server isn't necessary to encrypt it)
kixcrypt qnew.kix \\qnewsfile\logon\kix32.exe %s
please download our version and try it.
Possible it had to deal with network response.

Also KIXCRYPT.EXE works more reliably as far as command not found.
This problem is related to the length of the command line parameters because adding the -d makes it work in addition to changing the path length.
Update:
I downloaded and ran F6378.exe which is crypted.exe that has been renamed. A sucessfully created crypted.exe is not the issue.
The issue is creating crypted.exe with an alternate execution path that is exactly 27 characters long.
That is the problem!

The network path was not found.

The point is that the code is not relevant to the error, but the lenght of path parameter is the problem as shown at:
