Yes i am.

What i am trying to acheive is an automated process where by users of laptops in the company can auotmatically create an image using a network bootdisk which connects to our build server and runs ghost to create the image. What i want to also do is restrict each user to only having a single image of their laptop saved at any one time. So if the netbios name is used this will help.

Hope i am making sense.

think you can't work with NetBios Names at this level ... maybe an IP address of your Server with having the Network card drivers loaded ?

If you use a boot disk isn't the netbios name embedded in the INI files on the bootdisk? With a bootdisk, this name is not machine dependent. What is machine dependent is the MAC address of the network card. This can be retrieved in DOS using the utility "putinenv.exe". If you create a correspondence list of "Name - MAC" on the server then you can pull the name from the server once you have the MAC address. You could autocreate this correspondence list by writing an appropriate UDF in kixtart that ran at login time. Of course this would only help with rebuilds. New machines would need to be manually set either in DOS or Windows.
