We have recently renamed and moved our printers from an old NT print server to a W2K print server and are having problems with our test script to reconnect users to the new printers. We are currently using the con2prt utility from the NT4 resource kit but have found this to be very slow, since testing kix with addprinterconnection it seems to be twice as slow. It seems it downloads the driver everytime I log on and with 20 somethimg printers can take up to 15 minutes to process the login script. We have a mixed environment of NT and XP Professional machines and I am currently running the test script on my XP machine. Any suggestions of a way to speed things up ?? Also looking at a way for the user to define their own newly named default printer rather than one printer we allocate to them, I would like to do a kixform or something but like I say I am new to kix and have no idea at this stage.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
