I'd like to create a hidden share on all of my 9x PCs. Any way to do that? Possibly a registry edit.

Thanks,
Barrett

Put a '$' at the end of the share name, same as in Windows NT/2000/XP.

I know, but what I want to do is be able to do that with my login script. I have 900 9x machines.

Barrett are you using KiXtart v4.02 or v4.12 or v3.x ??

Do your workstations have WMI installed?

I would think that "yes" it is possible to do this with a registry hack. However unless you can find the hack here on the board by doing some searches or on the Web. You may have to do some snapshots of the system before and after.

My website has the link to PC Magazines INCTRL 5 program that allows you to do that. (it free).
www.kixhelp.com

Maybe someone else here has done it and or remembers how, but I think more and more of us have gotten away from Windows 9x

Howard still has a lot, and I have some, but I've not written code to do that myself as I've not had the need to do so, but I'm sure it can be done.

You did not specify this, please read ABC's of KiXtart board etiquette and message to new forum users , Section F.

See also Windows 98 Registry Handbook: Part One: Security and Remote Administration and you might be able to use RMTSHARE.EXE or SHARe.VBS from the Windows Resource Kit.

You might also search the KiXtart BBS for threads about scripting the creation of shares.

The first question that has to be answered is; Do all 900 have "File and Printer Sharing" installed?

No, I totally forgot about that. Can you also add File and print sharing service through scripting? About 400 have that service installed.

Yes, it can be done but VERY UGLY as Windows will ask your users to answer file updating questions, etc...
