Hello kix users... im a student here in canada and recently worked for a large scale mining company whiched used KIX as one of their main scripting languages.

I have a class in which I get to choose a language to present... i chose KIX but i have NEVER used the language EVER and am having loads of trouble in finding teh information i need for this presentation...

I was wondering if there was somewhere i could go to get some live help in real time? ie mirc, msn , icq etc..?? anyone know of anything?

What do you need to know? Have you read throught the manual? This board is just about real time.

Just checking in quickly after some Christmas shopping ;-)

Have to agree, this BBS is pretty much real-time, especially with the BBChecker running.

Give us some details what you'd like to know. What exactly is the presentation? Details on the inner workings of the KiXtart interpreter? Script sizes used?

hehe no no its begins with a comparison of two languages then a presentation of each...

Im done one half but the Kix half i dont know anything about sadly all i know is it is used and i would like to know [Frown] ... but if you guys are all that interested heres the URL to my profs website where he has posted tables in which aspects about the language are to be filled out if they can be.

http://www.cs.laurentian.ca/dgoforth/cosc3127/languagereport/projectindex.htm

The only reason im giving the URL is i would feel like an ass posting over 150 questions [Smile]
The thing is is there anywhere on teh net that i can find the info needed to complete these tables?

Thanks guys sorry bout the slow responce.. Oh and what i meant by real time was something like IRC or MSN ... instead of a message board

many of us have a kixscript running as "messenger" so real time is delay of 20-99 secs (depending on the settings)...

After seeing that page, I would say all you have to do is READ the manual.

After you get past the basics, we could add some more interesting concepts.

yap - have to agree with Howard there, everything you need is in the manual ... most of the stuff is NA (not applicable) anyways, seems like these tables are geared more toward compiled languages than scripting language ... funny that there is no (explicit) mention of COM & Automation support ... would love to see your evaluation when done.

Which language are you going to "compare" Kixtart to ?

dunno about you, but I would never do such table.
what a work for nothing!

paying some 100-200$ should be enough to get someone else make it for you.
try that out too.

Im not sure what u mean by the manual.... but i have a printout of Kixtart 95 Version 3.51...
And from there i have things such as installation , thunking, debugging, and genereal syntax BUT only like 1 paragraph of syntax, thats really not enough for someone who hasen't ever played witha asripting language save some minor toying with Unix scripts... But none the less those are th bastard questions that have to be answered i guess i could give it a go but .. things like does kix have a run-time stack or what does its Activation record look like etc etc... those i have trouble enough finding for my othr language VBA(simple to complete with deitel & deitel book as they cover the material much like a University course would looking at all the useless features about the language) [Smile]

Well guys thanks for your time and if im still pluging away with kix at least i know i can fire a few questions away here [Smile]

I suggest that you download the version 4.12 and use the current manual as it has more features that you would be interested in documenting.

First of all, the latest incarnation of KiXtart is 4.12. you should use this latest version since it contains a lot of improvements. About 90% of the questions on the links are answered in either the KiXtart Manual (print it out) or the FAQ Forum.

BTW, this BBS is as real-time as IRC or IM. There will always be slight delays. So, if you set your threshold at a response time of under 1 minute, then this BBs is definitely real-time (and sometimes even ahead of it's time).

BTW, there's not much syntax because it's a free-format language.

I think those are things that only Ruud or maybe Brian can answer. However, don't forget that KiXtart is a scripting language and KiXtart scritps are interpreted on the fly. It is not a compilable language (though it would be nice [Smile] )
