Sealeopard Sealeopard KiX Master Registered: 2001-04-25 Posts: 11165 Loc: Boston, MA, USA	Check HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall. There are multiple subkeys based on ProductIDs. You'll find the info inside these registry keys. However, you might want to take a look at the Office Resource Kit and create administrative installs for your Office Deployment. _________________________ There are two types of vessels, submarines and targets.

I am using admin install points for the inital install but my WAN links are 56K so when I go to apply the OHotfix files it wants to access that admin share point... Assuming you have a local server on your LAN, a DC maybe, can you not create local admin install points? Update the global admin install point, use XCOPY /D to copy changed files over to the local networks during the night, and then install the patches though the local admin install dir. [ 14. Les Les KiX Master Registered: 2001-06-11 Posts: 12734 Loc: fortfrances.on.ca	I'm not trying to be coy, just showing how easy it is to find stuff in the reg. Not sure about the key name however. It may vary depending if the M$ Office builds are all from the same source. If some are from shrinkwrap or OEM bundled builds, the ProdID may vary. You may have to enumerate the various keys looking first for the 'DisplayName' before manipulating 'InstallSource'. The problem is it was installed in this particular case from the cd drive... believe it or not there are MANY programs that are installed from the CD drive and as a result I am searching for E:\ through the entire registry.. there are quite a few matches and I figured, you know I ll bet there are some people on the kix bb that could offer some assistance on this issue.. so what the hey I will post it. It has been another 12 hr day for me already and it was one less thing that I had to go digging for. Thank you all for your help. For future reference in case anyone else comes across this it is code: HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Installer\Products\904020001E872D116BF00006799C897E\SourceList The entry is LastUsedSource Maybe useful in the future. _________________________ Austin Henderson

I know about admin install points.. as previously stated I use them... I do not have ANY servers of workstations in my remote offices that I can maintain multiple admin installs... but I appreciate the sugguestion... just wont work for me. _________________________ Austin Henderson

Les Les KiX Master Registered: 2001-06-11 Posts: 12734 Loc: fortfrances.on.ca	Hmmm, that ProdID on my system is for Microsoft FrontPage 2000 SR-1 My ProdID for M$ Office is HKCR\Installer\Products\904010001E872D116BF00006799C897E Also since my 'InstallSource' is my SMS server, have no entry called 'LastUsedSource' under HKCR but do under HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\{00010409-78E1-11D2-B60F-006097C998E7} have a 'InstallSource'. Mind you, mine is MS Office Pro. I know back before SMS, when I was installing OEM and ShrinkWrap, it turned into a real nightmare to install SPs as it wouldn't accept just any CD. It does stink that it wont accept just any CD... it does not have to be the same cd but the data1.msi file has to be the same version.. i.e. SR-1 or whatever. Regarding the admin install point... I will explain again and then we can just let it go. I have computers that are in remote lans... I am visiting and installing Office 2K on them. Once I get it installed I use ohotfix to apply the 30 million patches MS has out... I have this on a cd and using kix apply the ones necessary. Well you see the hotfixes are on a cd... data link is to slow... and then when it goes to patch office it wants the original media... this is bad.. so as stated it was installed from cd first.. e:\ I wanted to change it to a temporary position to a shared cd drive in that LAN just for the patching time.... then I was going to change it to my admin install point for future patches when I will not be there.... thanks for your help.. I do think that is odd about the PRODID but it worked for me. Thank you all very much. _________________________ Austin Henderson
