We want to distribute our own standard Power scheme to all our win2k clients. To do this, I created a new scheme X with the desired parameters for Turn off monitor and Turn off hard disks and saved the registry subkey [HCKU\Control Panel\PowerCfg\PowerPolicies\X]to a REG file. I activated a kix script that runs REGEDIT /S to update the clients. As a result, the new power scheme is entered to the registry, but the parameters for Turn off monitor and Turn off hard disks are set to Never. The same happens when I run the REG-file separately.

Any suggestions ?

Thanks,
Jamel

You will also need to update HKEY_USERS\.Default

If the registry importy is correct, then you might need to check whether the registry key actually contains the correct value.

Also, do you actually activate the new power scheme. It is not enough to just import the scheme, you will also need to set HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\PowerCfg\CurrentPowerPolicy to the correct power policy number.

Yes, I do activate the new power scheme. I don't think there is a problem with the registry importy or the kix script !
Try this:
- Create a new power scheme.
- Select Turn off monitor and Turn off hardisk values and make a note of them.
- Save [HCKU\Control Panel\PowerCfg] to a REG file.
- Start Power Options Properties and delete the power scheme you just created.
- Run the REG file.
- Start Power Options and notice that the values off Turn off monitor and Turn off hardisk are wrong [Mad]

Thanks All [Confused]

Yes, the new power scheme is set to current !
I came to the conclusion that the power scheme settings for turn off monitor and hard disks are not stored in the binary value "Policies" in [HCKU\Control Panel\PowerCfg\PowerPolicies\X]as I thought.
My conclusion is based on the fact that removing "Policies" value from the registry does not affect what I see in the settings for my power scheme in the Power Options Properties.
Any body knows where these values are stored ?

Thanks
Jamel

Use a registry tracer to confirm this. Make a registry snapshot beofre and after adjusting the power settings and then compare those. E.g. use 'Advanced Registry Tracer' for this or any other similar utility.

Just a wild thought...
Did you also check GlobalPowerPolicy?
