I am new on writing scripts. I have a big project to do with my company. We want to use KixTart to bring in all our logon scripts. Our global groups profile use the same drive letter per say on different groups and some members can be in more than one group. My main concern is that if a member is a member of multiple group, how would I assign the next drive letter so that there is no conflict? I am checking all the post and I have not come around where anyone have posted on same drive letters for different groups. Can anyone point me to previous post?

Thanks

I am not clear what you mean with global profiles use the same driveletter?

Normally you use drive letters to map drives to specific shares. You can use either '*' to assign the next availabe drive letter automatically or you lay down a framework of driveletters and their associated shares. The second one is the recommended one since it'll standardize shares.

well, there is pretty many ways... best would be with looping.

anyway, I use simply checks and predefined group letters.
if exist("R:\nul") ;r-already mapped.
if exist("S:\nul") ;s-already mapped.
use t: "\\storageserver2\Accounting"
else
use s: "\\storageserver2\Accounting"
else
use r: "\\storageserver2\Accounting"
endif

what more multiple things you have, that more you would need to go for checking against all driveletters...

{edit}
what comes to "*"... I've seen it not working...

Now there's a great way to cause confusion at the office.
Give people diffent drive letters to the same share. Then when they reference drive letter by conversation or email or shortcut or links...

I think you should rethink it and try to standardize on drive letters and maybe consolidate shares.

absolutely...

The issue is one for MIS to manage... don't pass the buck.
