I update my virus software (SDATxx.exe file) via kix. Since putting SP3 on windows 2000. I am unable to do this as a normal user, as this gives me an error message to say that the user does not have enough privilages. I am assuming that this is a added security feature of SP3. Has anyone else encountered this problem or does anyone know of a work around.

Many thanks for your help.

You can run the AV updater under an administrative account by for example utilizing SU.EXE or the Task Scheduler. Search for any of these terms on the KiXtat BBS and you'll get a ton of scritps utilizing these methodologies.

I would recommend setting your antivirus software to "AutoUpdate" once a day (or at startup) from a location or ftp site on your network.

I force it at logon...
code:
		$availdat=dir("$setup\apps\mcafee\update\*.zip")
$availdat=substr("$availdat",5,4)
if instr("$vscandat","$availdat")=0
$=writevalue("$McUpdate\Update\Update Site1","szUNCLocation","$setup\Apps\McAfee\Update",REG_SZ)
shell ('"$mcupdexe/MCUPDATE" /TASK UPDATE /BATCH')
$vsdatdate =readvalue("$vsengine","szDatDate")
$vscandat =readvalue("$vsengine","szDatVersion")
endif

I force it at logon as well... I also have the schedule set to daily so those renegades that don't turn off their PCs (Hmmm. I personally tend to lock my Windows 2000 for weeks on end!) will still get an update.
